touchscreen or dual screen

Had several touchscreens in my old business. They get messy if handled much so Tom’s stylus idea is a good one. They are expensive compared to a normal screen. I recently upgraded my two screens from crt’s to 24" ASUS. There seemed to be alot to chose from at the time all of equal quality so then it became a price thing. Two screens are killer. How one interacts with cubase is a question to concider. Personally, I use a mouse, keyboard and a mixer interface. It seems I need to be on guard as to how I use the three for maximum performance and do catch myself getting into ruts where I’ll be mousing instead of using the mixer or key codes on the keyboard, let alone mixer programable keys. There is no room on my desk for another monitor, but in the future when this mixer is gone…well maybe it would be time to build a new desk and drop a touch screen into it starship style and get a stylus.

Yeah… if it’s a choice between to screens Or 1 touch screen then it’s got to be two screens.

But two screens and an embedded star trek touch screen would be well cool :slight_smile:

I use it mostly for plugin guis. I used to mirror the desktop and have the mixer and all using ultramon for resizing the main to fit on the secondary, now I extend the desktop and drag the guis over to it.

Not in cubendo: The other thing I do is put session documentation scans onto it (touch in portrait) so I can write and draw right on the paperwork my clientele fill out.

I love my touchscreen. Don’t think I could live without it.

Here is a pic of when I used to mirror the desktop:

One of these days I will update the site. Just not enough time…

Since then I added another mackie ext (24 channels now) and the main monitor was replaced with a 30" 3008wfp-hc on a radial arm that is pulled close for editing and pushed back for mixing. The 30" is so f-in big that it interferes with the sound and has to be pushed away to open the field.

I suppose that was a little more than you asked, but thats how I roll. >:*}

Sweet setup, Tom. I’m currently using two 19" monitors, but the gap in the center bugs me.
That 30" looks like just what I’m looking for - still a little pricey, though.(current bid on ebay $750.-- for a used floor model.) I wonder how long it’ll take to come down to about half that price. :slight_smile:

Hey Lenny,

I sometimes think I should have gone with a larger than 30" monitor. That Dell was friking expensive. The pixel count is outrageous and the larger plasma and lcd monitors are set more for tv being 1920x1080 vs the Dell’s 2560x1600. I actually picked up a 30" lcd to replace my 24" monitor at first and the pixel count was less than my 24" I sometimes contemplate selling the 30 and getting 2 24". Funny, one of the factors with the Dell was the width matched the width of the mackie mcu and ext. I had this in mind when I bought it due to aesthetics. Then I found another ext for cheap and that blew that out of the water.

i use a 23’ kcd touch like “Woodcrest Studio” i use it only for plugins & mix put a “big resolution” 1024w768 to match pot & faders with fingers & it’s very cool but it’s not usefull (evept with a stylet perharps) for the other thing in cubase
have one 42’ tv lcd as main monitor (cubase projest windows etc…) 2x 22’ lcd for rme total mix & vu meter & the 23’ touch for mix & plugins "& this one can be adjusted from 5° to 60° (easy for arms :smiley: )

For a long time I used dual 19" CRT’s but awhile back I went to one BIG screen – I like it MUCH better, precisely for the reason Lenny lee mentioned – didn’t like the big gap between the two monitors

Going of topic here but @Steve:

Do you have long sessions on Cubase? It may well be you are suffering from computer eyes:

Well, you got that exactly right – for me it’s ENTIRELY a OCD type of thing – I just like everything on one neat tidy screen

Zap – I will PAY you to post one of your songs. I am not really seeking to hear whether it’s good or bad, because from what I’ve heard of your playing I know it won’t suck. And as a long-standing member of this community, I encourage you to let down your guard a bit and let us hear something. PLEASE? [littlekidvoice]PLEASE![/littlekidvoice}

Call your optometrist on your big phone! :sunglasses: :laughing:

Anyone using this?

Someone has serious issues:

There’s an idea! Why don’t we do one of those grand lounge collabs to raise money to pay Zap to
finish his song. I suggest we do a modern version of the old ‘Seeds’ hit, ‘Pushin’ Too Hard’. :laughing:

We will need someone to step forward as C.O.M.A. Any takers? :sunglasses:

Ha. My mum has a phone like that :slight_smile:

Waste of time and money. Kock found this place via a typo while surfing for porn and has been having a go at us this whole time re:tunes. :wink: :mrgreen:

Cubass ?

The touch-screen concept for DAW is only useful if the OS & application are on a tablet unless you have tactile controllers really what is the point?

Well my point is to answer that question,
I never worked with a touch screen, maybe it has some advantages,
I would control cubase still with Mouse, qwerty and Novation controller, but I ask myself if there are possible advantages with an additional touchscreen.

I’m definately shure that in the near future touchscreens will be everywhere around us.
It makes sence that Cubase will become part of that revolution.

Your still talking screens here, right?

:stuck_out_tongue: :blush: :laughing:
