Track Archives Fail to Restore All Direct Routing Paths

When importing a Track Archive, all Direct Routing settings, including routes and summing mode, are restored (visually) to the MixConsole. However, only the first route functions properly. Any other routes fail to pass signal to their specified destinations.

For the failed routes, choosing another bus (or “No Bus”) and then re-choosing the desired bus corrects the problem.

To duplicate this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Nuendo
  2. Create a New Project
  3. Add an Audio Track, “Guitar”
  4. Add a Group Track, “Guitars (5.1)” **
  5. Add a Group Track, “Guitars (Stereo Downmix)” **
  6. In the MixConsole’s “Racks” drop-down, enable Direct Routing
  7. On the Guitar audio track, enable Summing Mode
  8. On the Guitar audio track, in the first Direct Routing slot, choose the “Guitars (5.1)” bus
  9. On the Guitar audio track, in the second Direct Routing slot, choose the “Guitars (Stereo Downmix)” bus
  10. Verify that both routes are working - that is, audio from the Guitar audio track reaches both, the 5.1 and Stereo Downmix groups.
  11. Select all of the aforementioned audio tracks and group tracks
  12. File > Export > Selected Tracks…
  13. Call the Track Archive “Guitar Setup”
  14. Close the project
  15. Launch a new project
  16. File > Import > Track Archive…
  17. Load your “Guitar Setup” archive
  18. Notice that audio from the Guitars audio track is heard in the Guitars (5.1) group track but not in the Guitars (Stereo Downmix) group track
  19. On the Guitar audio track, in the second Direct Routing slot, replace the “Guitars (Stereo Downmix)” bus with “No bus”
  20. On the Guitar audio track, in the second Direct Routing slot, replace “No bus” with the “Guitars (Stereo Downmix)” bus
  21. Notice that audio from the Guitars audio track is now heard in the Guitars (5.1) group track and in the Guitars (Stereo Downmix) group track

** Other signal routing (e.g., surround master group track, stereo master group track, surround out, stereo out) would be necessary for this project to function logically but aren’t relevant to this test. Your routing and monitoring preferences, whatever they may be, should suffice, and therefore those steps are omitted for clarity.

I’m using Nuendo 12.0.40 Build 317 on Windows 10 Pro

Update: I just discovered another workaround that’s much, much better than rebuilding the dropped routes individually. After loading a track archive, if you save your project, close it, and reload it, all of the direct routes are restored.
