I can’t find a way to keep event colors to retain their track color within a folder track. They always take on the folder track color, I’ve searched this and not found a workaround , anyone?
Cubase 14 keeps the event colour as well as the track colour if I move a track into a folder. Same applies for colours that are already inside a folder.
If I want to change all event colours according to the track colour I have to use the option at the bottom of the colour palette after selecting all events.
Which Cubase version are you on and how do you apply colour to the events?
thanks for the reply. I have several instrument, midi and audio tracks in various folders in my project. Because all the folders have the same color, any track created within that folder gets the folder color, NOT the track color.
Maybe I am missing something. Do you want a newly created track within a folder to have a different colour other than grey? That is possible in more than one way. So it is not about event colors to retain their track color ?
I am a bit lost, can you upload a screenshot and show me what you mean? Or maybe someone else can chime in - I really don’t get it… sorry.
Yes, it’s about event color, retaining the track color, not the folder color.
Is this menu item set to “Previous Track Colour”? I have it set to “Track Default” and never experience your issue.
Okay, is it this what you are looking for?
Edit/Preferences/User Interface/ Track & MixConsole Channel Colors
Allows you to set an automatic color assignment mode for new tracks or new channels.
Use Track’s Default Color
New tracks get the default event color.
Use Previous Track Color
New tracks get the same color as the tracks preceding them in the track list.
Use Previous Track Color +1
This is similar to Use Previous Track Color, except that new tracks get the next color in the color palette.
Use Last Applied Color
New tracks get the color that you last applied to an event/part.
Use Random Track Color
New tracks get random track colors.
I have it Set to track default as well
Curses!
Can you start Cubase with preferences disabled and see if this issue remains?
Please make a screenshot so that we can see what you are talking about.
Thank you @Johnny_Moneto - I still dont get it, too! Maybe this time we will finally see a screenshot if it is not too much trouble for the OP…
Soon, possibly tomorrow
Ok, I think I know what you do.
The folder track has a defined color.
The (midi or audio) track inside the folder has no defined color (track default color).
Create a part, midi or audio, on that track. Not an audio event, but a part.
=> The part will be colored like the folder track.
Exactly! if I remove the audio/midi track from the folder and create a part, it takes on the track color as it should.
?
Okay, still no screenshot, still no idea what you wanted in the first place. Besides, I am not sure if we talk about the same things when you say track, event and part. Since you are not willing to show what you mean I can’t help you.
Hope you get it sorted out, good luck!
Just not at the computer today, I’ll try and get to it later on today and make a screenshot
Thanks for the screenshots.
Now I get it, phew, this was a long run…
The problem is the way you assign the colour to your track in the first place. That was in fact the very first question I asked in my first post:
You have assigned the track colour of different track types as defaults in the preference dialogue. Now, these colours are indeed overruled by the colour of the folder.
Solution >>: If you assign the track colour manually than this colour will persist within the folders. You only have to do this once. Once you established a colour you can copy the track or set the colour of the track you create next to use the previous colour. You can do so by setting up the preferences here:
Edit/Preferences/User Interface/ Track & MixConsole Channel Colors/Use Previous Track Color
Here is a little GIF showcasing the issue:
