Track freeze to save resources does not seem to be working

As a rule I can record and playback lots of channels and I routinely do songs that have 6 or more guitar tracks. Recently I started using more amp-sims.

A project I have been working with recently has 10 channels each with its own amp-sim. I started to notice some playback and recording problems. I could also see that the Average Load, and Real-time Peak meters were each over the 3/4 mark. I froze all 10 tracks. Now I have 10 frozen tracks, 1 MIDI track for drums, and one audio channel with an amp-sim to record a lead on. I figure at this point I should be able to record. But, I still have too much latency to work with.

I did a mixdown of the song and imported it. Then disabled all the channels except the one I want to record a lead on. It worked perfectly, so I have a work around.

Why does track freezing not free up resources? What am I missing here?

Hi,

Doyou have any compressor (or other plug-in) on the Stereo Out bus by any chance?

As a matter of fact I do. I put a multi-band compress on there, just the other to try something out.

Oh what the heck! I removed the compressor and it started working!
Thank you. You saved me bunch of headaches.
