Hello, I am new to Dorico. I typically use digital pianos for MIDI playback in the various studios I rotate between. In another application, I am used to it automatically detecting the instrument that is connected. In Dorico, I need to manually change the routing from how it was saved last. When I open another song, I need to do the same all over again.
I am assuming that this would be a basic function for such an elaborate application. What am I missing?
When I turn my DX7 on before opening Dorico and then try to add a MIDI instrument, the correct option (the MIDI cable/adaptor for my DX7) pops up automatically. And it plays back (through the DX7 speaker system, not through my computer speakers).
Welcome to the forum, @bill6. Dorico doesn’t have a feature to automatically map instruments that are assigned to a specific MIDI output to another MIDI output when the MIDI devices change. This is also the first time I can recall it even being mentioned, so I don’t think this is a common requirement for many users.
I understand that if you are using only a digital piano and only writing for a single instrument, and only connecting between two or three specific but different digital pianos, this would make sense. But in general terms I don’t think it does make sense: we would need to be able to handle much more elaborate situations involving multiple instruments and multiple MIDI ports.
