Hi
I am a little confused by the terms “Track Instrument” vs “Instrument Track”. I can find no reference to the term “Track Instrument” in Cubase help, but “Instrument Track” is documented.
If you add a new track by clicking the “+” button above the track list, you are adding an “Instrument Track”. But if you add a track from the Right Zone, you are adding a “Track Instrument”.
Are they the same thing?
Adding a “Track instrument” from the right zone (VSTi panel) actually set it in an Instrument track.
IOW, they are the same…
Hi,
I guess you mean Rack Instrument vs Instrument Track.
Instrument Track is a combination of a MIDI Track, the instrument and the Audio Return.
Rack Instrument is the instrument, where you can tie MIDI Tracks to.
In the past, there were more differences (Track Instrument wasn’t multitimbral and multi-outs). Nowadays, they are much closer.
Hi Martin
No I meant, “Track Instrument” vs “Instrument Track”. In the Cubase interface, both these terms are used. But in the Cubase help, only “Instrument Track” is documented. I think they are the same thing.
How do you call it in grammar when a noun is used as an adjective? That’s my personal interpretation of what’s going on here.
When you add tracks, you add specific tracks. Audio Tracks, MIDI Tracks, Instrument Tracks. In my language this is usually done using genitive case. Track of audio, track of MIDI etc. etc.
But when you look at the Instruments Window, it’s the Instrument that is the object. It can be a Rack Instrument, or it can be a Track Instrument. So again in my language it would be “Instrument in a Rack”, “Instrument on a Track”.
But as @cubic13 said, it’s the same thing.

Instruments Window
[/quote]Very logical explanation.
The Instrument Window’s focus is instruments, so it’s a “Track Instrument”.
The Track List’s focus is tracks, so it’s an “Instrument Track”.
They are the same object.

A Track Instrument is a virtual instrument that is loaded on an Instrument Track.
Track Instrument = Instrument on a track
Instrument Track = Track that has an instrument loaded into it
Track Instruments are an alternative to Rack Instruments.
Excellent explanation. Thank You
When you add an Instrument Track with the “+”, or a Track Instrument to Instrument Window, you are adding a Track Instrument to the Project. Cubase automatically creates an Instrument Track for the Track Instrument.
The result is the same, but The Track Instrument is an instrument. The Instrument track is a Track.
