Does anyone know why some tracks aren’t muting when I solo tracks?
I have two Audio Tracks that have mute automation on them and they were muting whenever I soloed tracks, but now, they keep playing even when I solo other tracks, and if I mute one of them, they mute, but the solo will also be on on it. Really strange behavior. It seems to have something to do with the Mute Automation on these tracks. I even solo a track before the Mute Automation kicks in, but I hear them playing still, and then I see them Mute from the automation, but then still hear them. I can click the mutes, and then they re-mute but the solo light also comes on.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? Am I missing something? They worked fine at first, but now they won’t mute when soloing other tracks.
Thanks for the reply! Solo Defeat is not on those tracks. Here’s the strange thing; I just deleted the mute automation on both tracks then hit undo, and now they are working properly again… But it was like this before, so I’m gonna try to keep any eye on what may trigger it.
One thing I DO notice is that when I solo tracks, the Mute button on those tracks with the mute automation do NOT highlight yellow UNTIL the Mute Automation kicks in. Although, at the moment, they still mute which is ideal and expected. However, this was the same behavior with the Mute lights not highlighting and highlighting but the expected outcome was that of the tracks not actually muting. I hope that made sense.

Yes, same here. I assume that’s by design and not a bug. There once was a graphical bug related to muting but that one was different and also quite a while ago and not in Cubase 15.
Muting not taking effect during exclusive soloing is something you should keep an eye on. However, sometimes tracks show erratic behaviour. Happens very rarely, though. Copying them and deleting the original track solves the issue in most cases. In your case it was a simple delete and undo which did the trick.
This may be a different scenario altogether, but I have occasionally seen tracks not muting when soloing other tracks – no mute automation (or solo defeat) in my case.
I have not figured out any patterns as to when it does and does not happen, but the cases where this occurs seem to involve Superior Drummer 3 or Omnivocal being the track that doesn’t mute when something else is soloed. I’m pretty sure it’s not every time, but it’s happened enough times that I’ve noticed the weirdness.
I’m currently on Cubase Pro 15.0.30 and Windows 11, but I’ve seen it in earlier versions of Cubase 15, too. I’ve mostly ignored it because it’s only weird, not a major workflow impediment, and I’m always trying to get actual work done when it happens, typically editing some track in the key editor. It’s possible that, at least in some cases, it may be the key editor solo that is letting a track other than what I’m working on in the key editor come through.
Interesting! This is essentially what is happening to me. I can solo any other tracks, and two of them specifically won’t solo. It seems like deleting the Mute Automation on them and then undoing that fixed it, but I’ll find out when I get back into the session today.
