Hi all,
I want to make the transition from Notion to Dorico. I want to import my scores that I made with Notion - bass scores which have two lines. One for Notes and second the TAB-Version.
When I import them I‘m ending up with two identically TAB-Lines and canˋt find out which settings to change in order to change that behaviour. Any ideas are much appreciated.
I‘m on the iPad Version.
Best regards - Christoph

Thanks Derrek for the link - but I‘m not sure if that is the same problem.
In Notion my score looks like this:

after Import I‘m ending up with this - two TAB lines and the second one is transposed one octave down - therefor some notes are not on the staff right now.
Best regards - Christoph
Have a look at setup. Have you ended up with two instruments?
Hi Janus,
thank you very much for the reply - I only see Partitur and one instrument - E-Bass.
I was able to get the following with the Layout Setup/Player/Fretted Instruments - there is the possibility to change from TAB only, to TAB/Notation and Notation. After putting it on TAB/Notation I get this:
Two times the line, and the lower staff is one octave down (because the bass sounds one octave lower).
Best regards - Christoph
could you upload the file (also the xml in a zip)?
Here are both files in the Archive:
The Music XML-file generated from Notion and the outcoming Dorico-Project after Import.
Thanks for the help!

Archiv.zip (567.3 KB)
Sorry. Stumped. Hopefully someone else will chip in…
Perhaps you could export the original without the tab line (Dorico will happily add it back)?
Hi Christoph,
I opened your sample and did this:
Library->Layout Options->Players->Fretted Instruments - select Notation and Tab
You end up with the four staves.
Hover mouse/arrow over the staff you don’t need. Select any of the rests or notes in that staff, right-click to get pop-up menu which should give you an option to Remove Staff. That takes out both standard and tab staff for me.
Not sure how you would do the right click stuff on iPad version.
I am in the process of translating three decades worth of Finale stuff - and the weird stuff you see.
Typically MusicXML files will have separate “parts” for the notation staff and the tablature staff. By default Dorico will try to merge the two staves into a single instrument, but it will only be able to do this if the notes on the notation staff and the notes on the tablature staff are the same. If there are any differences between the two staves, either in terms of the notes themselves or the way they’ve been encoded as MusicXML then Dorico will instead import the two staves as separate instruments to make sure you don’t lose any information.
There is some control over this in the MusicXML Import preferences:
Hi Mr. Gullible,
thank you very much for your idea - unfortunately I couldn’t reproduce the removing of the staff with my free iPad version… I will have to see what is possible. I think the best option is to export the music without the tabulator and then make tabulator again in Dorico. That way I would loose maybe some unique fingerings, but that’s it.
If you do all the work with translating then I assume that you are quite satisfied with Dorico?
Best regards - Christoph
Hi Richard,
thanks for the idea - I have noticed this preference before, but it doesn’t make a difference in my case. Thank you anyhow for taking the time to write me.
Best regards - Christoph
I added the Dorico for iPad to the keywords above.
thank you Derrek
