Transpose and volume settings don't seem to work

When I tried to record new MIDI tracks with Komplete Kontrol as VSTi I noted that I had to transpose my MIDI input 2 octaves down (24 semitones). Otherwise VST Live would play me the instruments two octaves too high.

Also the volume sliders sometimes do not work. They seem to start working once I activate the record or monitor button, but neither for all of my tracks:

MIDI is recorded “as is”, no change is applied to MIDI events during recording. All modifiers are applied on playback only (or thru a Layer).

That is a bit vague…can you provide more details?

I don’t know. I was using my Komplete Kontrol Mk2 keyboard and figured out that notes would play exactly two octaves too high with the Komplete Kontrol v. 2.9.6 plugin loaded.

Everything I played on every new track was exactly two octaves being played and recorded too high. I didn’t set any transposition or octave settings in my globals though where I put together all my MIDI equipment to a virtual MIDI cable that I connected to the tracks inputs…

Don’t know whether this helps: This was the project file:
2025_02_28.vlprj (1,1 MB)

When I re-opened it now everything seems to work well. Don’t know why there was this two octave transposition before. I have not changed anything compared to when I last was working on it…

By the way: I see lots of .bak files on my hard drive currently. Is VST Live backing up projects in the background? Or where do they come from?

When you save, VL is renaming last one as bak and creates a new fresh save.

In case of problem you simply have the *.bak there (quick rename back and you have your last version)

Bak’s are backup files, same as cubase, saved by interval of your preference

Maybe the control switch in the layer is set to MIDI?

You can use the MIDI monitor to check what’s being sent, maybe that’ll help you find out what’s going on.

There is no layer at all. Simply a MIDI track with Komplete Kontrol as output device…
I’ve tried to change the volume in the Mixer section too: This didn’t work either as expected… (I think before I had created a layer first and was clicking the record button but then removed the layer again and added a new MIDI track with KK as output device. Then the problem occured that I couldn’t change the volume anymore.
There was also a second problem with my second MIDI track and the volume slider. It seemed to decrease the volume of the VSTi a bit and I couldn’t get it as loud as before anymore until I removed the track and re-added it)

Thanks, I will use that next time…

Oh, nice :sunglasses:
I cannot define how many back ups are being made though?

No, but again doesn’t matter for now, believe me. It is more than perfect how it currently is!

Yeah, I’m not complaining

Just wanted to know
