Transpose Key Signature Grayed Out

In “Write|Transpose,” why is “Transpose Key Signature” grayed out (unavailable)?

In this case, I would like to move the key signature from F to Ab and have the notes transposed up a minor third at the same time.

I have just started this piece, so I can easily fix it manually, but I would like to know how to make this function work.

Thank you.

Just to be sure we’re clear: this dialog is grayed out for you?

You have to select it in order to transpose it.

This is what I mean:

Dumb question maybe, but do you have a key signature specified in the piece? I catch myself forgetting to put a key signature when working in C or a minor. I don’t think you can specify the key signature option in the transpose dialog if you don’t have a key specified.

Not dumb, but yes I do.

The only way I’ve been able to replicate the problem is if, as @JAMES_GILBERT says, I remove my key sig by showing signposts and deleting it.

I actually found that (with a key sig there to being with) I could transpose even without selecting anything.

I will close and reopen Dorico and ensure Bar 1 with the key signature is part of the selection. Some times weird things happen. Thanks all.

Yes, if you want to transpose the whole Stück, no selection needed.

“The whole Stück, and nothing but the Stück…”

Sorry if I step in here, this usually happens, when you have no key signature specified. Try to add a key signature by Shift-KCEnter and try to do the transposition again.

@konradh, I just thought to retry replicating the error, and I may have it! Instead of SHIFT-KCENTER I used the Independent Key Sig entry SHIFT-KCOPT/ALT-ENTER. In that case the *Transpose Key Sigs option is grayed out, which I think makes good sense.

Thanks! I will test!
