Transposing flow from Major to Relative Minor

Hello, Dorico family,

I am creating a series of clarinet scales studies within Dorico, with each tonality (C, a, F, d, G, e, etc.) being a new flow. I’ve created the flows and labeled them, entered the first scale study (C Major). How can I most efficiently copy/paste/transpose my first study for the remaining tonalities? I believe you would call this “modal transposing.” I see a few ways of doing this, but what I’ve experimented with so far is quite clunky and always leaves the chromatic scale at the end of the study with incorrect pitches (ie: B, B#, C, D instead of B, C, C#, D). In Finale, I could simply select a section and change the key from C Major to A minor and tell it to transpose down. I’m not sure how to most effectively, and quickly do this in Dorico.

Here is a picture of one I created in Finale…

Hi Nick – Welcome to the forum! To move your C major study to A minor I would:

  • Select all the notes in the diatonic part and Alt+down arrow twice
  • Select the chromatic part and Shift+Alt+down arrow 3 times
  • Optional: change the key signature to A minor, either before or afterward. This will not affect the notes at all (unlike Finale!) and of course doesn’t change the appearance of the key sig either.

Once you have it in one key, you can Select All (in one flow), select the first beat of a new flow and Paste, then Select All and transpose by interval (e.g. P4th up) using the dialog.

(We can also transpose in simple and complex ways using the note tools popover, but I don’t want to give you too much info at once!)

Thank you! The “Shift+Alt+down arrow 3 times” was a terrific step! You rock!

Heh, I wish. Dorico rocks.
