Tremolo from XML file

Again, figuring out what XML did to the file. I’m showing the Finale original and the Dorico that is missing the tremolo and the spacing is wonky.

Looks like there are extra beats in that measure.

Probably easy to fix, but (as always) it’s easiest to diagnose if you can upload a cut-down version of your project that demonstrates the issue.

Surely we’ve been through this earlier?

To create the tremolo you will need a pair of crotchet chords followed by a pair of dotted quaver chords . Do this all on the RH stave, then use M to cross-stave the first chord to the lower stave.

How do I save a cut-down version?

You can see there are extra beats in your 7/8 bar by looking at the bass (purple voice) - It has seven crotchets of time. Also the presence of the pink signpost tells you the amount of time does not match the time signature (so it’s yet another pickup bar!).

Here are the three steps you need to create the tremolo…

(EDIT: I’ve fixed the offending bar in the file you uploaded previously…

You can always upload the whole thing, but it sometimes helps in troubleshooting to focus on the issue (and some users don’t want to or aren’t allowed to share an entire project).

The tremolo looks great but much of the music down stream has been altered. I am trying to understand this program and find it hard to believe if something is enter incorrectly that there isn’t a way to quickly repair it. Lots to learn. Is it possible to know which voice one is in at all times as it is in Finale?

There usually is. But XML imports can have all kinds of issues.

It looks like you’ve got voice colors on, which should help. You can also select any note, and the status bar at the bottom will tell you what voice it’s in. But keep in mind that voices in Dorico don’t work quite the same way as layers in Finale—they are much more flexible.

As @asherber says there can be many subtle problems caused by XML files and fixing them can be time-consuming.

If you really want to learn Dorico, I suggest you do a manual transcription of your original.
