Triplet across bar-line - can't find a tidy solution

Hi

I have placed a semiquaver rest at the beginning of the third bar. I want to continue from that point using quaver triplets for several bars.(I’m transcribing a piece.)

It’s easy to play the passage but the notation I get between bar 3 and 4 looks a bit of a nightmare Can any of the Dorico experts give me an elegant solution.

Many , many thanks

Patrick

PS- What’s the Dorico way of acknowledging help please.

Just guessing here, but you might want to experiment with these properties…

Interesting…thanks I’ll take a look!

@Patrick22
Can you provide a screenshot of the original, including the time signature, please.

You’ll get something like this.

Damn British note values.

Hi Everyone

Just to clarify ..I’m transcribing from an improvisation so there is no score. The time signature is 4/4.

I tried adding another triplet at the end of the third bar and the attached screenshot is what I get..similar to what Jessie predicted. It’s easy to play the triplets over the LH but getting the notation to do this is not.

I haven’t had a chance to play with the menu setting that Janus forwarded, but will have time tomorrow.

Any other options, gratefully received…

Thank you for the support.

Best wishes

Patrick

You can also manually beam over the barline with the two options @Janus provided.

You can also get this:

Or this (more tricky but doable):

Or with the note spacing tool.

This version is misleading since the final note of the triplet at the end of the bar occurs before the downbeat.

Yes, you’re right, but it looks cool.

This doesn’t work either.

I think @charles_piano’s second one is the best.

Or this but I’m not sure

Also good.

Something about it here.

Thank you so much everyone for spending time on this and for providing all the different options. I reckon I’ll go with Charles’ second example, splitting the semi-quavers over the bar-lime.

It looks pretty straightforward to do, although if it does involve accessing various sub-menus I’d be grateful for any tips.

Thank you again!

I’ll be on it tomorrow,

Best wishes

I think the easiest way is to create it on a downbeat with force duration on the 16s, then copy/paste it to the other places.

Good catch, I hadn’t thought of that — I did it using nested tuplets!

Or create the whole bar on the beats, the alt/opt+right arrow with the grid set to 16s.
