I’m working with a two voice part that has different rest values on beat 2 - V1 dotted 8th & V2 quarter. After a whole lot of messing about, I was able to get it by adding a note (F) in V2 on beat 1, however I’m unable to delete it. I’ve tried Shift-B - rest, but it deletes both the note and the quarter rest that follows. How can I make this happen?
You have 3 voices there. The highlighted note is in Voice 3. Notice the following rest color is different than the pink (V1) and purple(V2) notes.
With the added quarter selected, hit V (Not Shift-V, that will create yet another voice) until it’s in the correct voice.
