True peak STUCK at +3.17

Hello!

Just upgraded from Cubase Elements to Cubase Pro 14!

On all project that I open, also in mastering! Loudness meter true peek is stuck at +3.17 and not moving regardless what I do!
Someone know the answer?

Thank you very much!

Welcome.
I don’t have a clue, but even the more knowledgeable types here will need to know what operating system (and version) you’re using, and maybe what you’re using for an audio interface.

If you Alt-Click (on Windows – probably Option-Click on Mac), on the reading for any meter, it will reset all meters. Then, if you play the project, the True Peak reading will eventually be whatever the value is for that project. If it is +3.17 dBFS, then you’ll need to figure out why it is so loud and adjust your mix to get it down to where you want it to be. Perhaps just reducing the Stereo Out fader would suffice if the rest of the balances seem okay (and assuming you don’t have some post-fader insert plugin that is raising the level further).

Make it lower? Bring the volume down?

But it shows the maximum value, always.
So once reached, it will not change.
It’s a loudness meter.

I’m not sure if this is related, but, just in case:

Last night in my Cubase Pro 14.0.20 session (on Windows 10, fully updated, including this week’s update), I was seeing the True Peak reading in the Loudness meter always stuck at 0 dBFS. Even with playback stopped (so no volume coming through at all, unless some plugins had very low-level noise that they spit out even with playback stopped – some analog emulation plugins do that, for example for tape noise), I could not reset the meter in the usual way. Also, when I stopped and restarted the transport, usually the loudness meter readings (including true peak) reset (that may be a preference setting on my system – I don’t recall), but last night the true peak part of it still kept the O dBFS value.

I should note that, when I was playing back, I had a true peak limiter at the end of the chain, set for -1 dBFS, so the value should not have gone higher than that. And, when I rendered my mix, measurements of the file itself showed peak values of both left and right channels at -1.00 dBFS.

I have NEVER seen this behavior before, including the project I was working on before this one, which I did do in Cubase 14.0.20. I just tried the same project again this morning, and the behavior is back to normal, so whatever was going on last night must have been limited to that specific Cubase session. VERY strange!!!

The true peak value in the loudness meter shows a maximum value all the time.
To reset the values, you need to click on the reset button in the display.

Right, but on my system (maybe due to a preference), it usually does reset each time playback is stopped/restarted, and also anytime I Alt-Click on any of the peak values on tracks. But last night it was behaving VERY weirdly on my system (see above) – the only time I’ve ever seen that (and it was back to normal this morning). I just wonder if the person who made the original post was seeing some similar weirdness.
