Trying to convert a midi track to an audio track for mixdown

I will start off saying that I am a novice with Cubase so keeping it simple will help me.
On some of my songs I am unable to use the record function to record a midi track to an audio track, even when the monitor function is selected on the target track I intend to record to. I mute everything except the midi track I am wanting to record. I have a feeling something is turned off somewhere, yet I can’t seem to find it. This only occurs on certain songs I have created. When I load another song, the recording function works flawlessly.

Hi and welcome @blumonky35

I’d use the render in place feature to render a MIDI track to audio :

Thank you for responding. I searched for the Render in Place option in the Edit menu, as well as under other menus in case my older version of Cubase is setup differently. I could not find it, so I am not sure if that is an option for me. I have Cubase Elements 10, Version 10.0.30 Build 236 if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the clarification, @blumonky35

In this case I’d use
File > Export > Audio Mixdown, then
After Export > Create Audio Track

From the manual:

Create Audio Track

Creates an audio event that plays the clip on a new audio track, starting at the left locator. Activating this option also activates the Pool option.

It took a little time to discover the driver for my audio interface had become corrupted. I figured this out only after I realized I was not able to record new audio tracks as well. I decided to start with the driver first and work my way up. I am now back up and running. I will also try the technique you suggested to see if it is better than the way I have been converting my midi tracks. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi,

Why do you want to get the audio before the export, please? The export itself makes the audio out of MIDI in case you are using virtual instruments. If you are using hardware synth(s), you can export in real-time. Then the audio from your synt(s) also become exported.
