Trying to get "fp" dynamic in Dorico 6

I’m working in Dorico 6 and can’t get the dynamic “fp” to work (not playback…just appearance). When I use the popover (Shift-D) and type in “fp” the result is f-p (with a dash in between). When I try to add fp from the Dynamics panel, fp isn’t even given as a choice.

What am I missing?? THANKS in advance!

Hi @drscottwatson,

look a little lower in that panel: you will see Combined Dynamics.

You have probably set the Engraving option to show this always…

But you can always remove it for particular cases using the properties panel…

THANK YOU. That was it! I had “Always” selected for separators. But…WOW. I have never seen engraved music use a separator for fp before. I’ve only seen it that way when the first time in a repeated section the dynamic is f and the second time it is p. I wonder why “Always” is the default? Anyway - THANKS so much for your help.

I don’t think it is! You must have changed it at some point.

Very possible - I’ve been fiddling around learning the program for over a year now, but am always finding little surprises!! Thanks again.

I would like to suggest that you edit your header to show and mark the appropriate reply with that attribute.

I haven’t posted a lot here. Can you describe what you suggest. I’m happy to do it, but don’t understand what you mean (or even how to do it). THANKS!

Wait - I think I might have figured it out. I found the solution offered that worked best, and checked the “solution” box at the bottom of their reply. Hope that was what you were suggesting.

Also asked in the Facebook group, here.

@drscottwatson – for the benefit of anyone reading here on the forum, I’ll repeat myself from your post: please mention in your posts when you’re asking both here on the forum and on Facebook. It saves everyone time and energy

Thank you!

Sorry! Will try to only post in one place or the other going forward. I really appreciate this community…I’ve learned so much!

By all means post in both! It’s just helpful to know that you’ve done so (and ideally with cross-links), so anyone who feels capable of answering can check to see if you’ve already been given the advice that they would give you

Hi @drscottwatson, I think you should checkmark the reply by @Janus as Solution (and not mine):
