Trying to install Dorico on a second computer

I’ve been using Dorico (version 5) on my desktop computer for more than a year. I now want to install it on my tablet computer (also Windows) so I can take it with me when I travel. I logged onto the Steinberg website and went to licensed devices. That page showed my desktop computer. The only options available are to deactivate the desktop (which I don’t want to do) and to “Register eLicenser.” That asked for my eLicencer Serial Number. Since I didn’t know it I started the eLicencer on my desktop (still an icon on my screen). In the maintenance phase of startup it told me that eLicenser was discontinued back in May. I remember hearing about it then but didn’t need to do anything then.

So, if the eLicenser is discontinued (1) why is the Steinberg website still asking me to enter its serial number and (2) what do I do now?

Just install Dorico on the second computer, and log into your Steinberg account there when asked to do so.

I think I got into this tangle because how to straight out install Dorico on the second computer isn’t obvious. On the Steinberg website where do I go for downloads?

It’s easiest to download the Download Assistant on your new machine…
Steinberg Download Assistant | Steinberg

The link you gave me brought up “file not found.” Even so, I was able to navigate to support and downloads. Dorico is now running on the tablet. Thank you.

I’m puzzled that when I log into the Steinberg website I’m not offered a link to support and downloads. How does a new person know where to go for downloads or what to download? If you hadn’t mentioned getting the Dowload Assistant I would have gone straight to getting Dorico 5 and then be puzzled about the effort to get it without the Assistant.

Important links seem to be missing from the personal section of the website.

I’m not going to be an apologist for Steinberg. I find their website and installation utilities byzantine.

Steinbergs home page has a link to support and so downloads! At top right corner!

Two concerns with that:

  1. I have to know Downloads are under Support. I expected a direct link to Downloads.
  2. Once I log in and go to Support it has links that take me to … Yamaha?? There is nothing on that Support page about Downloads. So I have to know that if I want to download something I don’t login.

Yeesh!

Don’t login:
If you’re at the Steinberg home page , this is what you find, and it’s Piece of cake, IMO!

Then you comes to:

And so

Then you’ll come to:

As I said above I already have Dorico downloaded and working on the second computer.

My point is that I had the expectation that if I’m to be allowed to download Dorico 5 on this second computer I need to log in. But when I do that I have no access to downloads. There are also no clear instructions that I should start with the download assistant and that I can do that without Steinberg caring who I am because the assistant will verify me rather than the website doing that.

In short I had a great many expectations on how the website would work and little to correct those assumptions until I didn’t find what I’m looking for.

Right now I’m ranting in hopes the website and installation process could be made more clear (and perhaps more like other websites that offer downloads). I’m also taking careful notes in case I have to do this again.
