Two hit points questions

Hi everyone,

two ‘little’ (I hope) questions about hit points:

  1. why don’t they appear in certain cases even if there’s a clear waveform transient? (I generally set the value to the minimum quantize lenght)

  2. today the opposite happened: I wanted to delete some unuseful hitpoints but they didn’t go in any way that I know to delete them…

Any idea about this?

Thank you,

Art

To delete them, open the event in the lower zone , go to hitpoint tab, hit edit hitpoints, hold shift and click on the hitpoint you want to delete. As far as them not showing up, I’m not sure.. I get that sometimes too and have to mess with the threshold and intensity or just put them in manually.

Thank you, @Dtgtrman78 ,

that’s exactly what I’ve done, and I usually do, but this time - for some reason I can’t explain - even when the cursor turned to a cross the hitpoint didn’t go…

@Dtgtrman78 Sorry for the delay in replying but I thought I’d clicked on reply and I didn’t…

There’s another way to do this. Under the audio tab (project header), scroll down to Hitpoints. A sub window will open to the right, select “Calculate hitpoints” (make sure you have clicked/selected the track/event first). The project will get very busy looking, a new image will appear above your track/event, but every hitpoint on your track/event will be listed and numbered. From there you can delete the hit points by clicking on the resultant numbered tab using the ‘erase’ icon - OR - going back to the Audio tab and scrolling to the Hitpoint line again, you can click on "Remove Hitpoints.

I’m not sure what your trying to do there, but in my case, I’m editing a finished Stereo Mixdown. You can spread the event/track out and click on each numbered tab and the curser will move there, hit play and isolate a problem or create a Tempo track and adjust the tempo points. Be advised, if you elect to adjust the various tempo markers within the Tempo track, the Metronome Click will not line up. You will have to Export the track, create a new project, and then create a new Tempo track for the Click to line up.

No problem at all!! That is kind of weird… what happens if you bounce the selection and then try it? My other thought is maybe you’ve converted them to warp markers already and you need to go to the audio warp tab to get rid of them if they’re yellow already.

Dtgtrman78, hi. I have tried bouncing the event and it made no difference to the metronome behavior. The Tempo track, once you establish it and have made your meter adjustments, it seems the only thing you can do is delete the Tempo track. And an odd thing here, the meter of the song was corrected in the Tempo track to 116 bpm, but the track ended up being 112 bpm after I deleted the Tempo track… I had to TAP it out on the Tempo Tap button to find it, but this matched the track up to the metronome. (And yes, I always record my events/tracks in ‘musical mode’, which I assume caused the 4 bpm time shift, but this also allowed me to correct the varied tempo of this particular song.)

And I can at least now overdub a guitar part to the song, which was the goal in this case. Of course a better group of players would have avoided this,:)))

Thank you @mr.roos I think there’s a quicker way to do this if you often need it: you have to set two preferences in Cubase Settings

I didn’t want to create tempo changes but only adjusting some transient position; after creating hit points in sample editor you crate warp markers with the specific button on the left then you can pass to warp tap and adjusting each warp markers with free warp tool…

I’ve eventually found the solution to my problem, anyway, see the next post.

If I get it right what you’re speaking about is tempo detection of a mixed file on which overdubbing some part and there’s one easier way for this too (tempo detection function under Project > Tempo Track > Tempo detection

Once you’ve done it you get a tempo tracks following your file tempo and you can also print it in the file it self… Audio > Advanced > Set Definition From Tempo After this you can even delete the tempo track and changing the project bpm…

There’s also one more long way to do this and there are a couple of Dom Sigalas videos on this… I put one link here, but I’m not finding the other at the moment…

Hope this is helpful…

HI @Dtgtrman78 ,

I’v found out the possible solution: I’d set this preference in Cubase Setting in a way that blocked deleting hotpoint and when I set it to as in the screenshot I could start to delete hit points as usual…

I had set it to use Shift key, when I set it to none everything went ok!

Thanks for replying and trying to help!

You’re welcome! I’m glad you got it figured out!!

arfo62, thanks for the suggestion and FWIW, you’re on a Mac and I’m on PC - and - all the settings you show are in place automatically here. ? So, I do get my ‘general’ hit points automatically but not the detailed hit points I can get with the method described.

In the case of this stereo mix track I was working on, Bass/Drums/B3, the B3 was dubbed over the drums and bass. The Drums and bass were recording live with a metronome click track, the B3 player (a friend) refused to use the click and hence his playing ( chord STABS!) were a bit ‘ambiguous’, missing the meter mark throughout the track. The resulting mix (even after adjusting his performance as best as I could before mixdown) created a mix that was very odd and random meter wise. Yes, the B3 rather took over the meter, creating a bpm roller coaster that varied the mix from 105-121 bpm. Here the Tempo track helped sort the problem. Using the Pencil tool on the Tempo hits I sorted the middle ground (112bpm) and now have a tack I can overdub to.

As a closing remark, obviously my problem was different than yours, but, here, Cubase 15 is quite amazing, IMO. I was ready to toss the track and now I can work with it.

Hi @mr.roos , you’re welcome! I don’t know if these are standard preferences settings or I did change them along the way…

I left Windows many Cubase versions ago (I think around 7.5) so I couldn’t swear it but I guess main windows are the same in both Win and Mac…

Regarding your issues with your friend recording I think this Greg Ondo video could be very good for you  Let me know, I hope it helps…

p.s. for strange it can be I purchased C15 upgrade on April but I still have to install it because I had projects to work on and I hadn’t time to do all the operations so far (included an OS upgrade, as I’m still on OS Ventura…)

Man I’m sorry, I didn’t even realize you were replying to me… I’m glad you got yours figured out too and apologize for not seeing your post.
