What was the selected Playback Template? Enabling Independent Voices creates new VSTs and samples for each Voice, in the same way as if they were separate instruments in Setup mode.
If Noteperformer was the selected Playback Template, then new voices may well** be created using NP, rather than duplicates of a manually created instrument.
** I haven’t actually tested this, but it seems likely…!
I changed from Noteperformer to a Kontakt based instrument earlier in the process. That looked all fine and dandy and worked as expected. Then I turned on Independent Playback and things looked weird. I did nothing to change any of this, but I still can’t reproduce now. Soooo…
The recent update to Noteperfomer changed (eliminated?) the ability to use 3rd party plugins. IfI understood you correctly (and the new restriction), the change to the Kontact instrument — if you have NP5 — would not work. Then again, I’m a real novice at the playback stuff!
yes and it’s quite annoying and I’m using the silence template in this particular project with homemade endpoints so nothing will auto-load. Sometimes, saving the project fixes it, other times switching modes fixes it.
As said, I think that when you turn on Independent Voices, Dorico assigns them VSTs based on your currently selected Playback Template; even if you’ve manually changed the instrument to use something else.
@benwiggy — Once again, thank you for the clarification. Your knowledge and wisdom are unparalleled! When I have time, I’ll see if I can watch some videos & tutorials on that side of Dorico’s abilities (and Cubase… and Logic Pro…) and see if my shaggy old dog brain can learn a few new tricks!
Yeah, I don’t think this has anything to do with Noteperformer (4) specifically.
For context, I use Noteperformer early in projects because it works in the studio and on the go (two different machines).
When composing is coming to a close I typically switch PE, however this case was a little special, so I kept Noteperformer active in there.
But, as you concluded, I had already changed the Piano instrument away from Noteperformer a few sessions back. I was not until I turned on Independent Voice Playback that this UI mixup showed itself. I believe it’s just coincidence that it’s Noteperformer that is being displayed.
