I am trying to create custom chord diagrams for a guitar chart. There is a chord change per quarter note, and most of the chords are 5 note chords, but I want the guitar player to play simple 3-note chords on the top 3 strings of the guitar. For example, the first chord is Bm9, and I only want the guitar player to play a D F# A - basically a D chord. I create a custom diagram by editing the given Bm9 shape, and save the diagram, but I can’t seem to use it. When I cycle through the available chords, it does not appear. It also does not appear if I change the chord symbol to a D. The original chord I edited was a 6-string chord, so is it unavailable because now it only uses three strings (and there is no 3-string category of chord shapes from which I can choose)?
Please note that I am working from the chord symbols that I have assigned on a piano part. Should I just duplicate the part, assign it to a guitar, and remove all the notes I don’t want the guitar to play? I still want to indicate what the actual chord is (Bm9, and not D), but would that lead to the same issue of the chord not being available?
Sorry if this is too many questions at once…
