@John_Ruggero The composer Theodor Kirchner would hardly have thought that 170 years later so much thought would be given to the notation of this bar :smiley:. He simply wanted the syncopated e not to be lost. I have now shifted the second e slightly to the right to avoid the impression that it might be a unison e

Incidentally, the same passage occurs again at the end of the piece, but there the f# appears instead of the tied e

That looks better to me @Juerg_Loeffler. I think one might also move the quarter note E and the following alto third C-E a little to the left to get them away from the F#, where a similar issue looms. Were the entire measure a bit wider, perhaps no adjustments would be necessary. I agree that Kirchner’s notation is fine as is.
