I purchased and downloaded successfully the the VSL bundle, to a designated external SS 4TB hard drive. In Dorico I selected VST instruments and selected “Vienna ensemble”. I clicked on the “e” button to load the VSL, I got “connection failed. could not connect to service”. I clicked on “connect”. Window opened: “connection failed”. I clicked on the “power” icon to “activate” the instrument. My iLock is in. Attached is my window. Please advise. I’m a finale casualty and totally new to both Dorico and the VSL.

I’m afraid I can’t help with your enquiry, but I’ve updated the topic title in the hopes that some of the denizens here who are more expert with VSL will chime in, e.g. @dko22 may be able to advise.
Have you started the Vienna Ens. server?
first thing to be clear about – it is Vienna Ensemble and not Vienna Ensemble Pro? I can’t see your screenshot so it’s not clear. If the latter then certainly you must manually run VEPro first (best) or link to the individual VEP instances if you have first run Dorico. But if it’s just Vienna Ensemble, then Dorico should start it for you if you’re choosing this VST from the list in Play mode (after which you will need to manually enter all your instruments or load an appropriate preset within Vienna Ensemble). If it’s Vienna Ensemble that’s not loading then things get trickier but let’s get the first question out of the way to begin with.
