Unable to establish VST Connect Pro on local network

I am unable to establish a VST Connect Pro session on my local network. At some point in the past I had this working. However I am currently having issues.

I am using two Windows 11 machines on my local network for some initial testing to try to get this working.

Using Cubase 14, but have tried other versions. Using VST Connect Pro and Performer version 5.6.0.

On the Cubase side, I have set up VST Connect Pro by clicking the id button in Cubase, then clicking the network symbol to start Connect Pro. This gives me a connection key which I then attempt to use on the performer side.

On the Performer side, I also click id, then enter the key presented by Pro. When I attempt the connection I get: Connection Error! Studio with Key xxxxx xxxxx is not logged in! Make sure both sides use the same and up-to-date version.

I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall but still get the same error. I have Wireshark on both systems but am not sure what I’m looking for.

I am using pfSense router. I am currently investigating if the router is blocking the connection.

I would appreciate any assistance in getting this working. I am attempting to confirm local operation before attempting a remote connection.

For local connections, don’t log in and don’t use the ID method.
With Performer and Cubase started, click the “WiFi” type icon and choose the computer to connect to.

Hmmm! I’m apparently confused!

On the Cubase side, I start an empty project. From there I select VST Cloud->Create VST Connect. I now have an open VST Connect window. From here I get a name/password window or, if I click on id, I get a name, which I assume is the name used for the connection. The id button lights, and if I do not click on the network symbol, I see no other indications.

If I go to the musician side at this point, the “WIFI-looking” symbol is not lit and not selectable. Clicking on it does nothing.

I can put together a video of what I am doing if that helps. Better, if there is already a video, that would be more helpful.

I will check Chris Salim’s video, but I don’t recall that showing a local connection.

Note that each of these systems has multiple LAN cards. This may be the root of the problem, as each machine may be trying to default to the wrong connection. I will try disabling LAN connections temporarily.

Problem found! If I disable all but the one LAN interface, everything works as expected.

This begs the question of how to get Cubase/VST Connect to use the desired network interface in systems where there are more than one.
