Hello,
I have a project with a single player/instrument/flow in Dorico SE 4, and I want to hide flow titles at the beginning of each page as well as all bar numbers above the normal staff lines. Unfortunately setting both options in Layout Options dialog doesn’t make any effect - flow name and bar numbers are still visible.
I tried to hide flow title with the following:
Layout Options > Page Setup > Flows > Show flow headings > Never
For hiding bar numbers I tried the following:
Layout Options > Bar Numbers > None
Both options I tried on both the whole arrangement and on the single instrument flow with no success. What an I missing here?
First thought is to double check that you have chosen the layout you want to make the changes in to match where you expect to see the changes realized.
For hiding the flow heading, it depends on whether you’re talking about “flow headings” that get inserted above the start of the flow, or the “running header” that appears centered at the top of every page after page 1.
Unfortunately you can’t edit page templates in Dorico SE, so you can’t hide the flow title running header, except by leaving the flow title field blank in Project Info.
If you definitely do mean “flow headings”, then they might not be disappearing because the pages already have page overrides on that lock them in place. Again, in SE you don’t have access to Engrave mode where you can remove these overrides. However, if you share your project, someone might be able to do so for you.
As to why your layout isn’t responding to changing layout options for hiding/showing bar numbers, please share the project here (or a duplicate version that’s cut down to just enough bars to demonstrate the issue, if you’d rather not share the whole thing).
Thanks for the extensive and quick reply! I think I am talking about the “running header” which appears centered at the top of every single page after page 1. I will share the project later, if nothing else helps with hiding bar numbers.
Is it possible in Elements to hide the “flow headings” and “running header” or I would have to go to Pro directly for those?
Bar hiding test.dorico (487.8 KB)
Attached is a sample project with random notes, which I started form scratch and hiding bar numbers is not possible in it too using:
Library > Layout Options > Bar Numbers > Frequency > Show bar numbers > None
OK, it’s a user error I was thinking that it should hide the bar numbers above the systems, which are actually part of the UI, used to delete bars and don’t appear on the PDF export. I remembered to test whether the export will contain them and voila - they are gone. Sorry, I use Dorico relatively rarely, and forget the basics each time.
kris, this is called System track in Dorico, here are some explanations and a video:
You can indeed “switch it off” / make it invisible, if you go to the View Menu.
In this menu there is also an option to selectively show (faint grey) bar numbers in Galley View or Page View (when you are inputting music in Write Mode).
And as you have noticed: these are all things that won’t print, they are just to help during your engraving.
