Unable to open .cpr from file/open menu C14

When I try to open a project from the File menu the .cpr file is greyed out. I an open the project by double-clicking it in Finder, but not in Cubase.

Hi,

Do you do File > Open…? Could you attach a screenshot, please?

Yes, please see below

Does anyone have any ideas on this? Still unable to open projects from within Cubase.

Hi,

Do I see right, this is a Dropbox folder? Does it work, if the project is stored locally?

Hi Martin, I have just tried this with a local folder and it makes no difference. The .bak files can be opened but any .cpr files are still greyed out.

Please click on the “Show Options” button. Maybe you have set the filetype filter to “.bak” files.

I’ve been having this issue also. I can open the “Recent” projects from the New Project window that opens when I start the program, but the explorer that opens when I go to File > Open has all the .cpr files greyed out. I double click on them and nothing happens. I choose which file type to show, and it continues even if I choose “All File Types” or “Cubase Project File”.

I opened my Finder and went straight to the file I wanted to open, double clicked on it, and it opened in Cubase 14 (the default configured program for that file type).

I suspected that it might be that CPR files aren’t associated with Cubase 12, which I’m also running (because it doesn’t crash in Device Panel editor when trying to drag sub-node panels into parent panels). I associated CPR files with Cubase 12 in the Finder, tested again, still the same problem. I restarted my computer even, same problem.

Mac Studio (Sonoma 14.7.2)
Cubase 14 and 12 Pro

Please keep in mind:
Cubase 14 projects can not be opened with older Cubase versions like Cubase 12. Older projects on the other side can be opened with C14.

I considered that, and went back to older session folders. Maybe I had opened them with C14 and just assumed I hadn’t. I’ll look further when I am back at the workstation

No I tried that but it was set to All File Types.
I have just installed the 14.0.2 update hoping that would fix the issue but it is still there.

I have exactly the same issue with Cubase 13 Pro on macOS 15.3

Hi,

Have you tried this, please?

Yes, I did.

Hi,

Does it mean, the *.cpr files are not available at all, or are they greyed out? Could you attach a screenshot, please?

They are greyed out:

It would have been good to see this fixed in the two updates since this was reported, but sadly no.

Is this folder backed up to any cloud service?

Sometimes if you file is backed up to Onedrive or Google drive, it may not have fully downloaded the file locally.

Alternatively, I’d check if the permissions on the file have been changed.
Get Info > Sharing & Permissions

I’m not sure about other users with the same problem. But in my case it’s with every .cpr file regardless of which drive they are in. None of them are backed up to the cloud and they are all set to read/write.

Exactly the same for me.
