Unable to switch instrument sounds in score

In 8.5 I can open the score and click a clarinet staff with the mouse and that sound will come up. I can then switch to the violin staff and the violin sound will come up. I can’t do that in 9. In 9 if I’m on the clarinet staff in score and the clarinet sound is playing, when I try to switch to the violin staff, the violin sound won’t come up and it stays on the clarinet sound. What changed in 9? What setting am I missing? I have both 8.5 and 9 installed and I can verify it works fine on 8.5 but not on 9

Found the answer by accident. I am posting here in case it helps others. The record button on the opened score page has to be on. This is new.
