I was on the line where the gong is, I was in “rest inputting” mode, pressed “Y” to enter the whole note rest, and it’s not showing in the bar. Sadly, I’m lost again.
I’d suggest entering the music first (not entering any rests at all - write it clean), and worrying about those things later. If you need to fix the rests later, it’s easier and quicker to do it that way in my (admittedly quite limited compared to some others in this forum) experience.
I have played around a bit more with your score. I still don’t know how it went wrong the way it did, but I have a fix:
Put a large gong in the first bar. Now the rests should appear for that voice after the note. Select the rest under the bongo, and check the “Starts voice” option in the lower panel. Now you can remove the note in the first bar, and the rests should stay. No need to enter any rests manually.
(You may also want to check the “drum set” box in the “edit percussion kit” box in Setup. This will cause the voicing to stay the way you’ve set it up for the kit. Link to manual)
Well done @Rikard

Sorry it took me a while again to respond. With being new on here I had to wait 2 hours to respond. Yeah, I did what @jesele said to do, but nothing appears in the bar. I tried it on bar 4 and even on bar 5. Nothing appears for me.
I know this isn’t related to my rest question, but how in the world do I specify a type of notehead for quarter notes and shorter and for half notes for each of the instruments in the percussion kit?
In the Percussion Kit editor. Select the instrument and click “Edit Percussion Playing Techniques”. There you can select between many different notehead sets, so odds are that one of them will be what you want.
I don’t see where I specify the note length for the notehead.
In the score I’m copying it has a half note with a diamond notehead tied to a quarter note that has an ornate x notehead. I tried just changing each notehead individually by right clicking on the note and using the notehead section. However, when I got to tie the notes together the quarter note changes into a black diamond notehead instead of sticking with the ornate x notehead. This is what I’m trying to accomplish.
I can’t find that exact combination of noteheads that you want. “X and Diamond Noteheads” is probably the closest one. I don’t know if that can be customised further.
I also don’t know what I did to make the whole rest disappear in bar 5, but I tried your way by placing a gong note in the first bar and then deleting it, but the whole rest in bars 2 and onwards disappear. I’m not having much luck with this.
You got the rests when you added the gong?
And you selected the rest and set it to “start voice” before you deleted the gong?
In that case, I have no idea why it isn’t working for you.
I accidentally skipped one of your steps. I’ll go back and try it again when I get done with the current page of the score I’m working on right now.
Maybe you can change the voice column index on those notes?
