When running Dorico, the cursor is now a connected double arrow pointing in opposite directions, always up and down. I can’t display it by using a screenshot. Restarting the computer doesn’t help. I know of no other program that displays this way.
It’s two connected short arrows end to end in opposite directions, pointing up and down, otherwise behaving like a normal cursor. Re-starting the system made no difference.
You have ‘insert’ mode turned on.
It’s not that. It looks more like the “Upload” symbol, the 7th, in the box where we type these posts. It’s that with one arrow pointing up and the other attached and pointing down.
Does it look like this?
I had to take a photo with my iPhone camera as doing a screen shot makes the cursor disappear.
The double-headed arrow appears when I position the cursor right on the upper edge of a window in many (all?) aplications on my Mac. It adopts that shape to indicate that the edge of the window can be dragged up or down. A similar one, but rotated 90 degrees, appears at the left and right edges of a window.
If this is what you are seeing all the time, I have no idea why. Others might have some suggestions.
As you move your mouse pointer over different parts of the window, the cursor will change shape to indicate that it is over a particular kind of control. The pointer with up and down pointing arrows appears when you move over the edge of the lower zone, if it is showing a resizable panel (e.g. the Mixer, or the Key Editor), indicating that if you click and drag, you can resize the lower zone.
Daniel. Occasionally I too have had the cursor get stuck on one shape and not change when moved to another type of control. It even survives changing mode. Reopen the project and normal service is restored.
I had put it down to having a slightly eccentric mouse, but now I’m not so sure. If it happens again I’ll send a diagnostic.
The diagnostic report doesn’t capture anything that would help troubleshoot this, I’m afraid.
IIRC, there’s a setting called Mouse Gesture in the Windows browser that gives you options to scroll via the mouse wheel in all kinds of ways. That may be causing a software conflict. Turning it off should make the problem go away.
That’s what it sounds like based on what I’m reading. Could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Yes, that’s it! Exactly. It seems always to be the only object of its kind that I have seen on the screen, and only when inside the Dorico image.
I am running Apple. It would be interesting if there were something analogous to the Windows Mouse Gesture.
I only recall seeing this phenomenon quite recently. I have not uploaded anything new in Dorico.
When I have a stuck wrong cursor I go up to the top and open a menu. That always triggers the arrow cursor, and then it should be un-stuck.
The only thing that fixes this problem (cursor stuck as the up & down arrow icon) for me is to go to PRINT Mode, and then select one of the layouts on the left-hand side. (Mac OSX Sonoma Dorico 5.1.70)
