Hello,
I recently upgraded to Dorico 5 Pro, having been a Finale user all my working life. I’ve discovered, however, that my Mac is now crawling. What I wish to do is uninstall Dorico 5 completely from my Mac and reinstall on a 4-Terabyte external hard drive I have.
How do I go about full uninstalling Dorico 5 Pro from my Mac, please? Is it “as simple” as dragging the application to the trash and then hunting down all associated files (which would seem odd, considering the indepth installation software)?
Welcome to the forum, @Clio. Simply installing Dorico itself will not have any impact on the overall performance of your Mac. Nothing that is installed by Dorico adds any new processes to your Mac that run all the time.
Can you say a bit more about what you have noticed on your Mac since you installed Dorico?
Hello, and thank you for your quick response to my query.
When I was downloading the new software and attendant files the other day, I noticed that there was a considerable amount of gigabytes being downloaded. My computer, on which I run the Adobe Design Suite for business purposes, is already quite full, even though it is a high spec.
Once I downloaded the Dorico software, my other applications began to go more slowly. I deleted a lot of the Dorico files earlier this afternoon - mostly audio samples, as Vadian above suggested, and now my computer is back to itself again.
I plan to install and operate Dorico from an external hard drive, in order to keep everything running as smoothly as possible. It would appear to be a space issue.
The application itself is not that large: well under 1 Gb.
Where you will save space is by moving the sound libraries to an external disk, which you can do in the Steinberg Library Manager app, without having to uninstall and reinstall.
But , as you’ve already done that – you can change the default location in SLM before you download.
Even on an SSD, keeping at least 15% free (and 50Gb at minimum) is still essential for the OS to run and good health of the drive itself.
Once you’ve got everything downloaded and installed, you can also delete the leftover Steinberg folder in your Downloads folder: none of that needs to remain on your drive once things are installed.
Could you tell us more about your Mac’s specifications?
If you run the Adobe Suite on it, and it runs them well, then it should chew through Dorico without any problem whatsoever.
I now use a 2023 model, but Dorico Pro 5 ran just as fast for smaller scores on a 2016 one.
