Unwanted distorted sound Cubase 12

Hi there,

it’s been ages since I last posted here when used Cubase

This week I upgraded my old 6.5 to Cubase Artist 12.

I am learning again and going slow, and so far I am unable to resolve a problem with unwanted distortion when playing for example the Halion Sonic Se. The kind of distortion I am experiencing sounds like adding a crackling/clipping noise to the original sound. I have tested the grand piano and other (clean) piano presets and all of them have this unwanted noise. And also this noise is happening when playing an audio track.
Please advise.
Thank you.
My pc:
Acer Nitro 5 AN517-41

  • Windows 11 Home 64-bit
  • AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900HX
  • 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 3080

You don’t say what audio interface you are using. The noise you mention is usually due to the buffers being too low and causing glitches.

Have you checked for cpu spikes or run latencyMon?

Hi mkok,
I use samson sr 850 headphones plugged into the laptop. Your guess was correct, I increased the buffer :
studio>studio setup> control panel>user definable “tick”>set around middle.
No warbling/clipping/crackling/interference noise. Good sound.
Thank you very much.
cheers

If using the laptop plugged in make sure you enable the steinberg power scheme also to stop cpu throttling

I now have enable the steinberg power scheme and can bring the latency down to 13ms.
thank you
