I have Cubase 11 Elements and looking to update to the new licensing system but want to keep using 11. Will I still be able to keep using Cubase 11 and what will happen to download assistance after updating or in 2025 when they switch over. I know I probably need to backup before 2025 in case of a computer HD issue. Like to update tonight and see what happens?
Hi,
you will still keep Cubase 11 Elements as long as you don´t lose or break your dongle. You can reinstall Cubase 11 Elements at any time on a new system, too - the installation files will still be available for C11. What you need to keep in mind is that e-licensers will no longer be supported in case you lose or break them. In other words - once your dongle is lost there is no way to regain your old licenses which are not supported by the new licensing system.
Here´s an overview which products will no longer be supported by the new licensing system starting early 2025
Additionally to Roco29’s info, you should think about moving your Cubase Elements license to a USB eLicenser (dongle) if it’s currently on a Soft-eLicenser. Otherwise, the license will be locked to the current computer after the shutdown of the eLicenser system because you won’t be able to reactivate it on a different machine any longer.
I heard Steinberg dropped dongles. VSL gave me iLok licenses w/o needing to use the eLic USB. I hadn’t used Cubase in a few years, so I tossed the USB… (thinking it wasn’t needed for anything anyway due to VSL’s approach to the transfer). I just bought C14 from C11, after using S1 for a few years… and can’t activate.
EDIT** Steinberg fixed it. See my later post.
Thanks I will be moving my soft e-license to USB dongle tonight. Too bad I love it being on my HD, I turn it on and it’s just there. Oh well, guess I’ll have to.
Refinedgoals, make sure you don’t have any Cubase 11 versions not activated, that was my problem. I had one that said grace period Cubase 11 that was not activated. After that I was able to activate Cubase 14.
Steinberg replied. They were able to verify everything with my account, the licenses being unused, etc. So they took care of me. Whew!
Good deal.
How long did it take for them to reply? My support ticket with registration problem is still unanswered after two weeks.
