Hi, I have limited space on my C:-drive, where my Cubase Pro 12 is installed. I only have 95Gb available on my C:-drive, and an upgrade to CP13 requires 75Gb available. Settings in the “Steinberg download assistant” opens for changing “Download directory”. Is the default directory on the C: -drive “compulsory” to use, or can I chose a directory on an external HD? Once I’ve sorted out this question I hope to upgrade to Cubase Pro13. I’m grateful for any answer.
You don’t need to save the installer on drive C: but can change the download path (including the drive letter) to a different one or even download the Cubase installer directly from this page. The installer also allows you to choose a different drive/path for the Cubase application and its contents. So, it’s not necessary to put everything on C:.
You want to make sure that the Cubase program itself is installed on your system disk. But it’s not very big. The content files on the other hand can be huge and you can store them wherever you want - many folks opt for dedicated library drives. Also your Cubase Project files can be stored wherever you prefer. In general it is best practice to have the System, Projects & Libraries all on different disks so their disk traffic gets spread out. That said there are plenty of folks who have everything on their C: drive & it works fine.
Cubase itself is less than 1 gbyte - all the rest is decidedly optional. I don’t think I’ve downloaded any of it, certainly not since it became optional. Good for newbies, though. I’d avoid the Download Assistant, too, and use the links on the Cubase download site.
Hi, and thank you for your reply and suggestions. I have used the “move” function in “Steinberg library manager” and moved all posted there to another HD, and thus freed over 100+ Gb on the C:drive. Any future downloads (e.g. CP13) will be treated similarily. Thx again
