I have bought an upgrade to Pro 14. During the upgrade my laptop ran out of hard disk space and the upgrade failed. I now have a new upgrade but when I try to upgrade no licence is showing on the e-licenser. I raised a support request with Steinberg weeks ago but have not had any help. Any ideas anyone?
Welcome!
The actual license for C14P wonât be in e-Licenser, but rather âActivation Manager.â You should be able to open Activation Manager and deactivate the âbadâ installation and just reactivate the new one.
Hi,
Thanks for helping.
Yes I am using the activation manager and putting in the access code but then as it is an upgrade it is asking me to insert the e-licenser which no longer has the valid old license on it due I assume to the failed install on my previous laptop.
Best wishes
Paul
Not sure how running out of HD space would cause that. Were you already done with the license update and installing the new Cubase or??
IIRC correctly (its been a few years since 12 came out), everything was done on the dongle through the Elicenser software, it did not touch the computer, it simply updated the license to âUpgraded to Steinberg Licensingâ and only works for 11 and below. At that point, a license for Cubase was ready to go in the Activation Manager.
Try running the eLicenser app again and let it run maintenance/repair the dongle. It may pull it back. Does the license still show up if you login to your Steinberg account in a browser?
Check you have latest elicenser control centre installed, open it and run maintenence and see if your old license re-appears. Confirm if elcc is seeing the usb elicenser but not the license or if itâs seeing neither.
Oh, I misunderstood then. Youâre saying that Activation Manager doesnât even show your license in the first place⌠I thought you had already handled the license and had begun installing - in which case, that should only have to be done once and it would already be in AM. But I think youâve got folks who are more familiar with the old eL migration stuff helping, so Iâll go into lurk mode for this thread
Hi thanks for your help, really appreciate that.
I have tried to run the maintenance and it does not appear. The e-licenser screen looks like this:

Hi,
Thanks for your help I really appreciate that.
In my Steinberg account now it only shows Cubase Pro 14 and not used on any computers.
It used to show the old Cubase I had too.
On my old laptop I had started the download, put the access code in. It then asked for the e-licenser and must have taken the licence off it and then started the install but fell over when it ran out of disc space.
The e-licenser screen looks like this now:
I have tried the repair/maintenance on the dongle running on my old laptop but it says there is nothing to repair.
Best wishes
Paul
Many thanks
This is still part of the activation process.
Open elicenser control centre directly from Windows. There should be no license activation error message. Screencap that.
And make sure the dongle is plugged in whatever computer you are doing this on (obviously!)
