Can’t find a topic on this on your BB. As you know I’m towards the end of a large project, and now need to upgrade from 3.5 Pro to 5 Pro. Will I lose any features and functionality such that my project is degraded. The reason I ask this is that I tried to import a Dorico 5 Pro version into my Dorico 3.5 Pro and I think lost some functionality along the way. Your support forum has said in the past to not change software versions mid project. I’ll use the 60 day Download as you suggest.
Dorico 3.5 doesn’t know about features from the future! So if you open a file from a new version, it can’t display new features that it doesn’t have. When you save that file, v3.5 will only write the features it knows about – so you will lose any version 5 features.
Obviously, going ‘forwards’ from 3.5 to 5 is completely different. Dorico 5 knows all about version 3.5, and it should open all your old files without problem.
There is one caveat: the way that Lyrics were handled was changed in Dorico 4.1. As a result, if you have files with Lyrics that are very closely spaced, vertically and horizontally, there may be some slight ‘movement’. However, it’s usually pretty easy to restore things, by reducing the gaps in Engraving Options between hyphens and syllables, and the Layout Options for minimum spacing between items vertically.
I have plenty of files where this doesn’t happen, so it’s a very minor glitch.
Thanks - I’ll head off to download the Dorico 5 Pro version, and look forward to the new online store.
