Will an update from Cubase 7 to Cubase 8 affect the tracks i am currently working on in Cubase? Will everything work the same way or will any files, tracks and other stuff be destructed in any way by this?

You can continue with your Cubase 7 on Cubase 8. Btw, Cubase 8 is an independent installation, so your Cubase 7 stays installed, if you don’t uninstall it manually.
