Hi everyone, I’d Ike to upgrade my HALion 1.0 , wavelab 4.0 and Nuendo 4.0 to the latest soft elicense versions. Sadly for me, I missed the upgrade minimum paths for all but Nuendo.
On that, will I get Nuendo11.x on my current usb e-licenser as well as my 13 on the soft e-license allowing me backward compatibility using my usb versions?
Thanks for any help you can give me…
Cheers everyone
If, I may answer this question.
I upgraded from N11, to N12, and subsequently, or recently N13, and I am still able to use my older version of the licence, i.e…, V11.
It is just pure SB, style to allow you to use your software, and not have to subscribe so I cannot imagine them charging much, to upgrade pre-USB, versions.
The fact that I can use Nuendo 11, on an older machine means, that I have already saved money and so I never have a problem upgrading my licences, with Steinberg simply because of the fact that I don’t have to upgrade hardware just because of a software upgrade (I use older versions of Steinberg DAW software, to mix with UAD, and it’s the perfect combo for mixing).
Also, Steinberg always finish their applications during a product cycle, so purchase in advance if you can but if you can’t for some reason, don’t be surprised if there are upgrade paths just around the corner.
Thanks for your reply,
That is comforting to know/ having it confirmed revarding backward compatibility.
However, my concern it’s with that….and correct me if I’m wrong, Nuendo 4.0 requires only a serial number but every version after went to USB elicenser….will they grant me an authorization code upgrading from serial number to to elicenser+ soft elicense?
I’m supposing that you won’t have access to N11 or any versions prior to that, or post V4 however I am keen to see if N13 will run on an older Windows 10 machine so if there is a special any time soon, go for it since, depending on what you want to do, it may be a relatively cheap upgrade, if there is some kind of discount for having already owned an older version.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for that info and I do understand all the elicenser products will get the updates to the last versions before the new system.
My question is if I upgrade a “non-usb elicense” version of Nuendo 4.0 which only requires a serial number, will I get the upgrade to the last usb version of v11.xx and also get the Steinberg licensing system? It is my understanding from reading the forums and FAQ from Steinberg, that this should be the case, but up until now, I have not seen anyone else in my scenario.
Cheers everyone
No, only Steinberg Licensing.
Nuendo wasn’t able to use a serial number only. There was a parallel port dongle used in the early days. But I think N3 was the first version with the USB-eLicenser.
You need to buy a full version again, since you don’t have an eLicenser to prove your ownership of N4 to the licensing system. No registered dongle, no upgrade path.
You should contact Stenberg directly to see what they can offer you as far as a special exception
Thank you for all your replies and I must confess that I am a dill!
I have Nuendo 2.0 and not 4.0……that was my version of Wavelab.
Anyway, I have not used it in such a long time and reading the ( physical ) manual….which they used to give you in the boxed version…I realized that I must have a usb key somewhere……and after searching for a few hours, I found my key as well as another one for Cubase SX 1.0 … mystery solved.
Thanks again everyone who responded….i feel so stupid but very grateful
