NVidia just released a new Beta GT driver…everyone seems to have a Nvidia GT display card that is having these problems worth updating and seeing if it helps whist we wait for $teinberg to even acknowledge this thread…
Ummm… Steinberg is the AUTHOR of this thread…
And Ed has replied many times with updates, etc.
jaslan good point they are the author of this tread i was wrong.
But am i wrong that this thread has been running since April it is August now and the problem has still not been fixed by $teinberg?
You are not wrong but they have released at least one new driver a month or two ago or so and, I believe, other drivers before that since the problems began. They are testing one now which they said looks promising. They have acknowledged the problem and, in my opinion, appear to be trying to solve it and have been giving updates somewhat regularly…
thanks for the update jaslan! fingers crossed for this new driver. Maybe its a case of 3rd time lucky for a fix
Every system has its issues…Again, mine works great now. No dropout anymore.
Last Saturday I did a long reconding session with no dropout running Pro Tools 12. About 8hrs working…coffe break and return…system always on and no dropouts. Media player seems to work fine as well.
As I said on my last posts, I did all those recomended BIOS settings, windows 7 optimizations and remove all those scheduled taks like Acrobat update and so…I am using USB 2 port on the back of my desktop. Internet connect but via ethernet cable, no WIFI.
It is ok, I guess…I got the last driver installed.
My systems specs are below so I think the problem is different from each system…sometimes easier to solve, sometime not.
Good luck guys!!!
Found a solution that works for me
Just thought I`d share this in case it helps anyone
I Have 2 identical hardware rigs with the exception of the audio interfaces
Both are i7 6800k with Asus x99A ii mainboards and Nvidia Graphics running Windows 10 Pro
One is at work in the studio with RME HDSPe AES-32 PCIe system with Protools, Cubase and all bells and whistles
And the other I use for home work with Cubase office and fun stuff internet as well as Cubase
I’ve access to all kinds of kit including many sound interfaces
Ive had nothing but trouble with random pops and clicks using my UR44 on both machines
Not dependant of buffer size, like many others have found here , sometimes many minutes apart then sometimes several in a few seconds
On both machines no problem like this with others cards and drivers inc Scarlett MOTU 828 and all others I’ve tried
Been everywhere with all the tweaks in this tread and elsewhere some made a difference but no cure just sometimes a change.
Just tried two tweaks that for me have cured the problem so much so that undoing the other tweaks still leaves the problem cured.
Don’t know why it works but totally repeatable here.
Both are tweaks to the Nvidia Control settings
Power Management set to max (Not enough on its own)
Thread optimisation set to OFF
Now stable at 96 samples and even set to 64 apart from the fact aiso peak light is permanently lit I hear no audible problems
It now behaves like you would expect it to with larger buffer needed as workload increases BUT no more random pops.
No idea why it works here but it does.
The UR44 gave no trouble on my old x58 machine which also had an Nvidia graphs or the laptop

My FIX for my 2 UR28M
step 1. Get gasoline -
step 2. Find a trashed BBQ grill and add charcoal and the high-grade gasoline. (Must be premium or it won’t burn) -
step 3. “Carefully” place the units on the grill and add more gasoline, (Make sure you get gasoline inside the machine via the inputs.) -
step 4. set it on fire… at first, you will hear a lot of pops and crackles but they will be gone soon. - (Unless You may wanna sample that for the Media Bay). That’s it… problem is now gone and will never return.
If using the above procedure when lighting please use a long pole and stay well clear of device. This is to prevent static discharge causing premature ignition and much harm.
Next time, I would go for a more eco-friendly solution - like selling it.
I like how this caught your attention Ed, and not other posts…
I’m tired of these devices failing! WHy would I sell a UR28M that is defective?
Both lost inputs and drivers are still embarrassingly not working properly.
Did they ever fix the issues with the MR series?. I’m still running it at 200 instead of 400.
SO you see, every Steinberg Interface has been haunted by bad drivers. And the UR28M has snowflaky input ports.
This method is help me actually, I tested for a few hours and haven’t had drop out yet.
OMG, this actualy works for me too well at least for the last 30 mins, more testing tomorrow, but… Well done Hippo Thank you so much.
Well after several hours’ glitch free working all its looking good, rock solid at 96 samples, no sudden gaps in the audio stream. Can’t believe I’ve had to live with this for 2 years and it’s so easily remedied. The only thing I would say is I have noticed a slight increases in fan noise presumably from my graphics card after switching off the power management, don’t know what it’s doing to my electric bill… not sure if I want to know…… anyway thanks
The nVidia tweak also seems to have eliminated the occasional drop out when I opened an instrument editor for the first time I used to get. Thanks for the tip.
It looks like the NVidia tweak works for some people and other tweaks works for others BUT you have to question why so much tweaking is required when other makes of usb interface just seem to work out the box on even our “problem” machines.

Like many others I have suffered the dropout issues on my UR22M. I tried a lot of suggested tweaks to bios/windows settings and managed to cut them to the occasional dropout. However the dropout would usually occur on the best take, sods law, and there would be much gnashing of teeth.
In desperation I tried what another user had done to fix his problem, I bought a cheap pci-xpress 2 port USB card and plugged the UR22M into it. Voila no more dropouts, been using it consistantly for 2 weeks now and it’s working perfectly. My PC has an abundance of USB ports and I tried using most of them to cure this problem without success.
Haven’t tried the graphics card power option but hey it’s working, so leaving it alone!
Here’s a link to the card I bought in case anyone wants to try it.

Hopefully someone will eventually figure out what the actual problem is
My system still is working fine…even before that nvidea thing…no drop outs anymore since the new driver came out. (well, I did all the suggested settings before - Bios, Windows, etc. (have no wifi)
I have been using the PC with amp simulation for hours (stand alone) plus long run Pro Tools sessions, media player…they’re gone!
Anyways, I did the nvidea setting few days ago as well.
So, seems to be a very different range of issues and it is hard do find out what is really you need to do for each system. For me, its a matter a better solid driver, anyway.
Since Steinberg said the new beta drive looks like very solid I think everyone will be happy soon. I hope so, guys!
Crossed fingers!
I’ve tried the new Proto 1.11 driver out on two different systems now - one my age old desktop PC i7 3770 based and the my brand new MSI gaming laptop an i7 7700HQ system. Both have NVIDIA graphics cards. The experience with the good outcome with the new Proto driver (and thebad outcome with the old 1.9 and 1.10 drivers for that matter) is repeated on the new system.
I have high expectations on the new driver based on this experience. I just hope it comes out before the Proto driver expires as I am not going back!!
I found this solution, after struggling with dropouts every 40 or so seconds after upgrading to WIndows 10 Creators’ update:
It was old, but unused network cards. I discovered that the problemt went away when I put the computer in flight mode. So after a bit of headscratching I found the culprit:
I have both a built-in network adapter and a previously installed D-Link thing that I don’t use. I disabled both in hardware manager, kept only my current Asus network adapter, and now all dropouts are gone. Buttery smooth playback both in Cubase and from Spotify, youtube etc.
Hell yeah! I have spent half a day fighting this problem, and seriously considered system restoring to the previous windows version, which would be painful. Very glad I don’t have to.
Hope this helps someone.
