UR22c Driver issue | OBS + ImageLine | FL Studio CPU usage spikes & Graphical Feedback lag

Good day

I noticed a strange quirk from the latest UR22c drivers when screen recording FL Studio using OBS.

Driver details reference:

  • Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver V2.1.7
  • Steinberg UR-C Applications V3.2.0:
    • UR-C Extension V3.1.0
    • dspMixFx UR-C V3.2.0

Issues within FL Studio when using the DirectDound Device “DAW (4-Steinberg UR22C)”

  1. CPU usage in FL Studio fluctuates

  2. FL studio laggy or dropped graphical feedback framerate

ASIO alternative issue
Using the “Yamaha Steinberg usb Asio” driver fixes the issue, but this driver does not allow audio to be ported to OBS when FL studio is using it.

Issue Demo
Please find link to a youtube video demoing the issue: https://youtu.be/J9yCf8lQaJc

Not sure if this is a FL Studio and Steinberg driver compatibility issue.

Any feedback on why this issue exists and how to solve it would be great.

TIA

You’ll need to configure what’s generally called an audio loopback between your DAW and OBS.

The UR22C Operation Manual has a section for Loop Back on Page 11.

And there should be various tutorials online about setting up OBS with such a loopback from a DAW. Hopefully one of those is close enough for your environment.

Hi Nico

Thank you for the feedback and the UR22c user manual.

I should have mentioned the following in my previous post.

I did try the Loopback from the older DSPmixFX. I believe this is V2.0.1 and with the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver V2.1.3.
Unfortunately, the loopback function did not work with this firmware and software version.

To work around this issue, I followed the 2024 UR-C Version 3 Update video released by Steinberg, though the latest firmware does not follow the same procedure to enable loopback as stated in the user manual. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eItn3vT3AKU

This video guides how to use the latest DSPmixFX with V3.2.0 firmware. Here is a screenshot of the latest DSP:

After following the guide and selecting the “DAW” audio driver, I have been noticing issues as mentioned in my previous post.

Is the latest Firmware version buggy if I am experiencing this issue, or is there a better way to set it up without reverting to the old firmware and drivers?

Unfortunately I don’t have a UR22c, so I don’t have any sense if the newer firmware might be buggy or if older drivers might still work in your situation.

I just responded, because you hadn’t been very detailed in your original post, so I was under the impression, that you didn’t know about the Loop Back approach.

Hopefully someone else with more relevant experience will see this thread with the additional important detail you provided.

Sure, no worries. Hopefully, someone has had a similar experience

Thanks for reaching out.
