UR22mkII - problem with midi signals through in/out midi ports

Hey everyone

I’m trying to use an old Roland electric piano as a midi keyboard connected to my UR22mkII through a midi cable - in/out midi ports(the Roland keyboard doesn’t have a USB port)
I’m using Cubase and there is a signal while I’m playing the keys but there is no sound.
Occasionally, every couple of seconds some sounds are produced while playing, but they are random sounds, no matter which key I’m holding down on the keyboard.

I’ve tried checking it on Cubase 8.5 and 10.5(Windows 10), I’ve tried using a different synthesizer with the midi cable, I’ve tried two different midi cables, and I’ve tried updating the driver, and none of those resolves the issue.
A few years ago the same Roland keyboard worked perfectly with Cubase 8.5, but now I have this annoying problem and I can’t figure out what’s causing it.
(A synth with a USB cable works perfectly fine.)

It’s like Cubase or even the UR22mkII audio interface is reading the midi signals wrong.
maybe the midi in port has gone bad?

Any thoughts? any help would be much appreciated,
(sorry for my awful English :flushed:)
