We are now in late 2024. I also bought a new PC, with Windows 11, Intel i7 and 32 Gb RAM. Works superfast and superfine, also with Cubase 13 Pro. But I also encountered the same problem with my UR44: the sound is now and then spiked. I started to compose in 2016, I kicked off with Cubase Elements 8 and the Presonus Audio Box iTwo. When improving my skills (now working with Cubase 13 Pro), I bought the UR44 a couple of years ago by which I could connect more microphones at the same time. It all worked wonderful until now, on my new PC. I tried 1001 options, also the ones suggested here. Then IT experts in my family , albeit without know-how about Cubase or audio interfaces, told me not to follow up on advices to change important settings in Windows, or even worser, in the BIOS. They regarded that as insane. If one player in a football team does not play properly, you are not going to change the whole team, management, stadium and even the Football Association. There is simply something wrong with that player. They also wondered if Cubase was meant to be used by music makers, or by IT experts. As some changes should better not be made by people like me, who actually have not much know-how about computers, if not to say any know-how. They easily might ruin the setup by not realising what they actually are doing⦠Changing vital windows settings may have an impact on other functionalities. The IT experts all said the same: the UR44 driver is not properly updated. It is also strange to read that the UR44C version, with USB 3.0, brings the same problem. But now comes the clue (and the proof of the UR44 driver to be wrong)⦠I still had that Presonus from 2016, put it up again⦠and⦠it all works smoothless again! So, why should I change NVIDIA settings, BIOS settings, tweak 1001 audio settings, throw hardware out, change key energy settings, do this, do that, test here and there, and everywhere? All of this when other audio interfaces apparantly work fine? At least I now can continue to working on my Christmas song project, which is significantly delayed due to all this misery. Steinberg and Yamaha: please get us all a proper update of the driver!
OK, finally there seems to be a solution. It looks to be a clash between the Steinberg UR44 driver and NVIDIA. As a result I disconnected the NVIDIA driver in the device manager (to use the default Intel graphics now), as well as the NVIDIA virtual audio driver. I also unplugged the internet cable out of the PC, as that also seems to be of influence. I finally changed the energy modus under the windows system settings from normal to optimal. Whatever made the difference, knock on wood, the UR44 seems to work properly again. Now and then a short lagging when playing a Youtube file, as I then need to keep the internet cable in. But that lagging is rare. Itās workable now. Oh, and miracle, the USB error message has disappeared. I hope not to encounter the problems again, as then I will have to buy a new audio interface, definitely not a Steinberg UR then. Maybe this is of help for others facing the same problem.
Although all the efforts gave some improvements, the UR44 still gave errors. I kept on working with the old audio interface. But I updated this week my Cubase Pro from 13 to 14. I noticed that Pro14 worked much smoother, hence connected the UR44 again to see what happened. Miracle! All the problems suddenly had disappeared, the UR44 runs smoothless againā¦..
