Hi, I’m considering buying the UR44C but according to a few testers out there the pre amps are pretty noisy, I have a Yamaha N8 at the moment and wondered if the UR44C uses the same pre amps as the N8, if it does then I’d be ok with it because I’ve no issues with the pre amps on it’
does anyone know if the pre amps are the same as the N8 please?
cheers.
The UR-C series has decent pre-amps for this price range. Complaints about noise are most likely having other issues in the chain and/or comparing apples-to-oranges.
The Yamaha N-series don’t even bother spec-ing anything about the mic pre aside from “Discrete Class-A MIC preamp (Inverted Darlington Circuitry)”, which does not say much about anything useful… Reviews were positive, but it was about 15 years ago.
Considering also Yamaha owns Steinberg and they likely share engineering resources, I’d be quite surprised the more recent Steinberg interfaces would fall short of the N8 (in about same boxing category).
In either case, noticeable noise issues are much more likely elsewhere in the chain.
