UR824 limiting when too loud??

Hi all

I am running the UR824 interface with Cubase 6.5 on an Imac. I am using focal solo6be monitors directly from line outs 1 and 2. I have always noticed that when I crank the volume pretty high the sound is limited on hard transients, I originally thought maybe this was a protective measure from Focal, but then I tested them directly out of my iphone and no limiting.

Is this something to do with the ur824 not handling loud volumes at the D/A? I’m a little confused surely this shouldn’t be happening? my monitors can handle a tonne of volume before crapping out. Can anyone shed some light?

I dont think the UR824 does any limiting ? i have come across any audio interfaces that do that. make sure you’re not overloading your DAC
