Working on a larger orchestral project with choir and solo singers in latest version of Dorico. All is good until conductor asks to use oboe, clarinets and bass clarinets for the vocal staves to hear it better. What could be easier……
Option 1: actually use oboe & clarinet instruments on vocal staves. It works, but have to redo staff names (ok, I can use player names). Make sure the music on these staves is not transposed and in the correct octave. That could be very confusing to edit.
Option 2: clone (for example) a clarinet instrument and set names and transposition as needed. Might even come in handy for future projects. Cloning “Clarinet” in Library->Instruments… gives me a clone. But when I use the cloned instrument on the staff it will sound like a piano. I know how to change that in the Play window by assigning this instrument to a channel with a clarinet. For this piece I have six choir staves that need this special treatment. Assuming the conductor changes his mind and wants me to use different instruments, I have to do this all over again.
This can’t be uncommon. Are there better ways to do this?
