Using Cubasis as external FFT Analyzer & audio connection from macOS?

Hi,

I own a Samsung Galaxy S8+ Tablet, which I do not use for music production right now as I am on macOS with LogicPro. Now, I thought I could buy Cubasis for Android, setup a FFT Analyzer and Goniometer in fullscreen and route anyhow audio from a MacBookPro M1Pro to the Tablet. Anyone did this?

  • I am using a SPL Mark One as a recording interface
  • Mac and Samsung tablet are on the same wifi

2nd Question: if I buy for Android, I won’t get a license to use it on iOS (iPadPro)? I will use the iPadPro for mobile recordings in the future and I could save money.

Thanks for hints and tips.
Johannes

Hi @Johannes_1

2nd Question: if I buy for Android, I won’t get a license to use it on iOS (iPadPro)? I will use the iPadPro for mobile recordings in the future and I could save money.

Cubasis for iOS is distributed through the Apple App Store, Cubasis for Android/Chrome OS is distributed through the Google Play Store. The two stores don’t interrelate and don’t offer any crossgrade options, which means that to own any app on both iOS and Android/Chrome OS, it must be purchased on both stores, unfortunately.

Regarding your gfirst question: Please note that Google does not provide the option to use 3rd party plug-ins within a mobile DAW (as it is the case on iOS). To learn more, which features are included in Cubasis for Android, you may take look at the Cubasis website.

The freely downloadable Cubasis LE Trial for Android app version allows you to give a smaller feature set of Cubasis a test drive for 30 minutes (which can be restarted as often as you like), to find out if the app runs as expected on your given Android device(s).

Hope that helps!

Best,
Lars

Hi Lars, thank you for your help, I appreciate! So 3rd party plugins cannot be loaded on Android, ok I understand. Yet, you for yourself do not use Cubasis, no? You do not mention any FFT analyzer/ RTA nor Goniometer, which Cubase, Nuendo, Wavelab etc. have on board.

YouTube is full of those analyzers, but all professional ones are for iPad/ iOS. Searching for RTA, analyzer, metering, Android shows almost nothing. Android isn’t made for Audio Pro’s? I doubt it! :grimacing:

Edit: I installed the Trial and there is no Analyzer nor Goniometer on board, which is weird cause the general haptic and use is pretty good. Is there a reason, why Android tablet users don’t want to get proper Analyzers for spectrum etc.?

Puremix is selling a host analyzer for Mac and Windows which then can be displayed on Android via a satellite app, but:

  • the Samsuns Tab S8+ CPU should do the job, not my main work station
  • the pricetag is way too high (139€)

Hi @Johannes_1

Thanks for your message.

Cubasis does not include any analyser plug-ins so far. With Cubasis for iOS you have the option to use 3rd party plug-ins via Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio and/or Audiobus 3.

Unfortunately, Google does not offer any similar options using 3rd party plug-ins on Android.

To learn more, which features (and plug-ins, instruments etc.) are included in Cubasis for Android, you may take look at the Cubasis website.

Hope that helps!

Best,
Lars

Thank you for clearifying, that Cubasis isn’t the solution due to Googles Android policy.
Due you think, the Steinberg Cubasis team might come up with an internal analyser in the future, is this on their agenda already? Do you recommend that I sent a feature request to the developer team to inform them (please tell me a proper contact form/ email)?

@Everyone here in the forum: if you do know a good stand alone application (either any DAW or dedicated analyzer stand alone) please leave a comment, if this metering can receive audio from an external digital source (MacBookPro, WiFi, Bluetooth). Thank you so much.

Best Regards
Johannes

Hi @Johannes_1

Thanks for your message.
I’ll make sure to add your feature request to our backlog.

Best,
Lars
