Using Microfreak as External Instrument

Hi,

Trying my luck here after hours of Google research and settings tests. I’m definitely doing something wrong but I need some guidance here.

Setup:

  • Arturia Audiofuse Studio soundboard
  • Arturia Microfreak synth
  • Cubase 12 Pro + Win11

What I’m trying to do:
Using my MicroFreak as an External Instrument on my DAW with an ARP preset.

  • My MF is setup as an Ext. Instr.
  • I have an Instrument Track with a simple MIDI sequence
  • My MF is connected via USB + Mono input in my soundboard
  • External Sync is enabled from Cubase to MF with destination “Arturia MIDI out” (it was the only setting that was preventing ARP mode from going crazy (playing single note instead of ARP pattern)

When I play the track:

  • I hear the unprocessed sound from my MF in the mono BUS
  • I hear the processed track (with ins./sendà track through the Stereo Out bus with a significant latency

What should I do to only hear the full processed “Stereo Out” output (with the insert/send mix) and how to prevent the latency?

I understand that rendering the whole thing would fix the issue but as it’s a work in progress I need to be able to edit and play the track on the go.

Thanks

what soundcard are you using?what asio are you using?what latency settings are you using?

Hi waxxy,

My soundcard is the Arturia Audiofuse Studio.

I’m using its built-in Arturia ASIO Driver.

Current latency settings are (factory settings I believe) :

  • Input latency : 15.60 ms
  • Output latency : 11.99 ms

Thanks for your help

This sounds like something your audio interface would be responsible for. Maybe you can find the proper settings by watching this video:

There is also a chapter regarding latency later in the same video.

@Johnny_Moneto Thanks it helps somehow but I’m not sure to be doing it “the right way”: I have to Mute the MF input in the Audiofuse Control Center so I only hear the DAW signal.

But Solo/PFL mode doesn’t provide any solution on its own.

As there’s no analog “Mute” button, it requires to go to the ACCenter each time you want to work on the MIDI section to mute/unmute the input.

If no one comes with a more elegant solution, I guess we can mark this topic as Solved

A random shot in the dark, but do you happen the have the MF midi device script for Cubase?
If yes, can you share it?
If not, I assume you didn’t need one when setting up MF as an external instrument. I wonder if I’m missing anything useful be manually defining the device.
