I submitted a ticket to support and got the following instructions (after some time):
Please try the following:
Log out your MySteinberg account.
Close all applications.
Restarting your system would rather be voodoo, but won’t hurt.
Go to folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Steinberg
Delete the “Activation Manager” folder.
Start Steinberg Activation Manager and log in.
Run Nuendo.
Unfortunately it did not resolve my problem. I have let them know, but no other response yet.
Please also submit a ticket to show i am not alone in this. And it is not working on 2 mac’s. With different MacOS.
Thanks
Ok the story continues without success.
Bought an Mac Studio M1 Max installed everything clean.
Everything works EXCEPT DNXHD.
Last email from support was advice to trash preferences…
Right let me just trash my preferences again… on a new machine.
I’m getting really tired of this stuff.
Something is wrong with my license and someone has to fix it, either Avid or Steinberg but not me.
same problem here on two computers with dnxhd 3.0 not seeing the activation in nuendo 11/12 (Win 10)…: besides reinstalling and restarting, how did you get this solved?
They actually gave me a new code and it still doesn’t work. Unless all my dnhxd files are special….
I get the same message so something is not working correctly.
When you go to the Help menu in Nuendo, do you see this?
If not, make sure you have actually INSTALLED it - just Downloading it doesn’t install it.
And then of course make sure its activated in the Steinberg Activation Manager.
I had to do this process twice, for whatever reason, but it’s working fine for me now.
I have installed / deinstalled, rebooted, talked to support, got a new license and it is still not working.
Does anyone have a dnxhd file that I can test with… that is the only other reason it might not be working?
Maybe I’ll just buy Video Sync 5 and use an old MacBook for playback… Video Sync 5
How did you manage to get support? I opened a ticket 8 days ago - and got no reply at all.
Patience is your friend here i had to wait 2 weeks.
I believe I have solved this. Steinberg has a seperate application called Activation Manager, in addition to the Download Assistant. Why these are not in the same app, is bewildering. I just discovered the primitive looking Activation Manager, and found the Avid DNxHD decoder waiting for activation. I hope this helps you guys.
Yeah I sorta tried that already (see the actual thread above).
How did you activate Nuendo 12? Without the ‘primitive looking’ Activation Manager that is impossible…
I suppose I may have used the activation manager to activate Nuendo… can’t recall. But it’s also likely that the instructions directed me to do so.
None of the instructions I found online or in these threads for the Avid install, included that extra step. That makes it confusing, because pretty well every other software developer, for whom I have countless download managers now on my system, handle the activation within the download manager. I can’t think of one that has one app for managing downloads, and a separate app for managing activation. Can you?
And yeah, that activation manager clearly wasn’t designed by the same folks who designed the download manager. But I’m not saying primitive isn’t cool.
You can’t even install Nuendo if you don’t have the Activation Manager installed. Steinberg is obviously aware of the fact that users can easily overlook this application. ![]()
Maybe it’s a Canada thing, but I emphasized the urgency and received a phone call soon after.
