I’m still using the Virtual Guitarist 2 instrument.
I know it’s discontinued many years ago but there’s no sample library or virtual instrument that can replace it. Not even close.
So, I’m using it through J-Bridge as it is a 32 bit VST.
But, for a few days, it occurs an error in the e-licenser soft. The USB e-licenser dongle is still ok and perfectly recognised by Windows 10.
Yesterday, I’ve re-install the e-licenser software and then it was running ok in my Cubase 13 project.
But today, it again occured an error and I’m not able to use it
I know some of You are still using it so :
Did you encounter the same kind of problem recently ?
Thank You for your replies.
It’s now become tiresome. I am still using Groove Agent 2.x and Virtual Guitarist 2.x (because I like them) and all was OK for a while after the shut-down, until (for no reason I can determine) the USB eLicenser Control Center works OK and then fails, and wont respond - however the Soft-eLicenser is not affected.
I’ve tried every possible combination without success - all I want is consistency.
As I said, it’s become tiresome to either have to switch USB ports, or reboot - and as good as Cubase 14 is (and it’s really good) this is totally unprofessional.
“Superseding both Virtual Guitarist and Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition versions, Virtual Guitarist 2 will ship in February 2006 for Mac OSX and Windows XP.”
Wow almost 20 years has passed… I can’t blame them actually for not keeping it alive, but it would set good reputation for their “support” if they ever did… It stills works on Windows 11 but not Apple-silicon Cubase.
This is not a VSTi software issue, it’s a licensing glitch that Steinberg is obliged to support (but don’t hold your breath). How would one demand this?
After many weeks of trying to figure out what is causing this CuBase problem with the eLicenser Control Center (and it is a CuBase programming problem), I might have found a temporary work-around that could assist you.
Imagine how many hours I have wasted to finally arrive at this point!!!
Remove the USB2 eLicenser dongle
Cold Boot the computer (not a ‘restart - I’m running Windows 11)
Start CuBase
Wait until till the CuBase Hub has loaded
Plug in the eLicenser dongle and wait until it’s registered in the eLicenser Control Center
Run/Load a CuBase project that has 32bit VSTi tracks, e.g. Virtual Guitarist 2 (jBridger)
The problem manifests when CuBase starts to load and evaluates the USB eLicenser dongle. If the dongle is not there, CuBase continues to load. This does not affect the Soft-eLicencer (SeL), so the problem is in the start-up.
I received a message from ‘Andree from support trying to fob me off saying:?
“Please note that Virtual Guitarist is a legacy product and we no longer offer technical support for it. Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to assist you in such cases. We apologise for any inconvenience”, when I made it absolutely clear it was about the licencing - not a VSTi issue.
Tiresome.
I haven’t closed the ticket, but wonder whether I will ever hear from them again.
Hi Eric
Thought I would try a different way.
I figured, if the issue is on CuBase startup (when it’s linking to Steinberg’s servers to check for valid licences) then why not turn the Internet connection off.
Works (every time) as it supposed to, without any problems (so far), and the VSTi’s seem to load a lot faster – I know it’s not a solution, but confirms where the glitch is, and this way you can at least load projects that use VG et al.
A very very big thanks to You because : it works
And yes, VSTi loading is a lot faster.
And once You’ve loaded and instance of VG2, You can put the internet connection back on and then work in another project, loading other instances of VG2, etc… the usual…
until You close Cubase.
This is a great tip !
Once again, thank You so much and I hope this will be useful to others.
Hi Eric
I eventually managed to get through to Support (as a licensing issue), and I think it’s fixed. After two days, the children are playing nicely together on both 14 & 15 so no more unplugging and plugging.
