In this double bass passage, the last two notes suddenly play back mp instead of fff. Changing between VSL and BBCSO doesn’t make a difference.

There is also a passage where one of the four horns is louder than the others, even though all marked p.

I originally imported this as a MIDI file and then cleaned it up in Dorico–something I never want to do again.

Is it possible there is something I can’t see in the score that could be affecting the playback volume of these notes?

Re-entering the notes helped, so now I am curious what hidden parameter was causing this.

It could have been a velocity or CC value in the MIDI that overrode the dynamic marking. Deleting the note would have deleted the MIDI values as well. The error could be in the original MIDI, or it could have occurred as part of the import.
