Cool. I did not know that. Thank You!
Just a follow-up. I understand your suggestion, tried it and am sure it would work, but…with the Synchron Prime playback template selected, any action in Dorico causes it to crash, so I am unable to load an instance of Vienna Ensemble to assign the instruments to. I just get the windows ‘blue circle of annoyance’, and Dorico crashes. It’s so weird that the Synchron player works with every other notation/DAW program on my PC with no issues at all. At least I can use my Synchron Prime sounds in Dorico with Vienna Ensemble.
Thanks for trying to help.
Have you checked that you have the latest version(s) from VSL?
We’d be happy to take a look at the crash logs, too, and see what’s going on. If you do Help > Create Diagnostic Report Dorico will create a zip file on your desktop. It will probably be too large to attach here (the attachment limit is 4MB) but you can send it to me e.g. via Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer to d dot spreadbury at steinberg dot de and I’ll take a look.
Thank you for your kind offer- I’ll be happy to send you a crash file report. I sent one to Ulf before, and have sent it to the VSL support team before as well. I am using the latest update of the player. It used to work jyst fine. Oned day I opened an orchestral work I composed in Dorico with the VSL playback template and Dorico crashed. I can no longer even load a single instance of the Synchron Player. A member on the forum suggested loading the instrument groups of the template into Vienna Ensemble and saving the new endpoint. I tried, but the moment the VSL playback template is applied, any mouse movement gives me the windows blue circle of annoyance, and Dorico crashes. I’m very grateful fir you and the awesome support you give us. I’ll send the crash file. Thanks!![]()
Daniel,
It seems I’m unable to create a diagnostic file. When I open an orchestral work (written earlier, when the VSL playback template worked) and the playback template loads, even clicking on the help menu causes Dorico to crash.
Any action I try to take after the project loads causes Dorico to crash. It’s just odd that it used to work fine in Dorico; now even a single instance of the Synchron player makes Dorico crash-although the Synchron player works fine in every other notation/DAW program I have on my PC. I love the Synchron Prime instruments (and Dorico, of course), and am glad I can still use them in Dorico within Vienna Ensemble (albeit without the articulations/features of VSL’s playback template)-so it’s not a total loss:wink:
You don’t need to load a project: just run Dorico as far as the Hub, then choose Help > Create Diagnostic Report.
Will do. Thanks!
Thanks for sending the diagnostics: vexingly, no crash logs are included. You may need to modify the Registry settings on your computer to ensure that crash logs are produced and can be picked up by Dorico’s diagnostic report collector.
Try the procedure described here:
Dorico is crashing. What do I do?
Although we make every effort to ensure that Dorico will run stably on everyone’s computer, you may occasionally encounter a crash. To help us troubleshoot the problem, please follow these steps. On Windows, applications no longer produce a crash dump by default. You can make your computer generate the minidump files we need to diagnose your problem by downloading, unzipping and double-clicking this Registry key:
dump-config.zip (503 Bytes)
Now when Dorico crashes, Dorico will create mini-dump files that we can use to determine what happened before it crashed.
I installed the dump-config. reg. Should I load a Synchrom playback template project, let Dorico crash, close it then reopen it to the Hub and resend a diagnostic file now?
Thanks so much.
Gary
Daniel,
I used We Transfer to send you a new diagnostic file to your steinberg email. This is after I installed the registry file, loaded a Synchron playback template project into Dorico and watched it crash. I then opened the Hub and created the diagnostic file. This one is twice the size of the 1st, so hopefully the information you might need is there now.
Thanks again!
Gary
Thanks, I’ve got the updated diagnostics, and there is indeed a crash dump in there. Unfortunately it’s not one I recognise. I’ve asked Ulf to take a look when he gets a chance. Please bear with us.
No problem. I’m very grateful to you. If it means anything, the Synchron playback template worked fine- until one day it suddenly didn’t. I haven’t made any (that I’m aware of) to any setttings in Dorico. It is a puzzlement😉 While I’m very grateful for you help, I know you’re busy, have lots of Dorico users (and personal lives🙂); so you don’t need to make this too urgent of an issue. I can still use Synchron Prime in Dorico with Vienna Ensemble.
Gary
I can’t say for absolutely sure, but I am confident that it is a Synchron player issue. @laughreyg , the diagnostics report you’ve sent to Daniel contains in the Crashes folder one VSTAudioEngine dump file. Please send that one together with a report of what you were doing at that time to the Vienna guys. Thank you
Thanks, Ulf. I’ll send them the file. I figured it had to be an issue with their Synchron player since all of the Synchron Prime instruments work fine in Dorico with Vienna Ensemble. I can live without their playback template. Thanks to you and the Dorico team for your amazing support. It is greatly appreciated.
Gary
